Another liberal runs with Obama to right of Romney on Israel

Even liberal Zionists are angry at Obama for throwing the two-state solution under the bus the other night, but the liberal press doesn’t seem to care. Here’s another liberal columnist running to the right of Romney on Israel in order to take Obama’s side. In “Obama’s Powerful Comment on Israel,” Jonathan Capehart in the Washington Post speaks reverently of the Jewish state and fails to note that Obama went to Palestine too on that 2008 trip.

When Obama went to Israel as a candidate, he went to show his solidarity with the Jewish state, and he went to learn and understand the reality of what life is like surrounded by enemies bent on that nation’s destruction. It was a powerful moment that should pop this silly notion that the president hates Israel.

Jonathan Alter disagreed with me when I made this point earlier on “Martin Bashir.” He said that Obama made a mistake by not going to Israel as president. I can’t argue with that. The president should have gone.

Those enemies bent on Israel’s destruction include what are in essence rebel groups in an occupied territory, many of whom were expelled from their homes 65 years ago because they were not Jewish. Some day this context will make its way into the liberal media– because we do not share values with a country that imposes conditions that recall Jim Crow and apartheid.

Capehart is pretty shamelessly shilling for Obama … he has no idea why Obama went to israel, despite what the claim may be. It could be that as an ambitious and crafty politician Obama went to israel to appear to take in the israeli perspective and to network and to pander to very powerful zionists back home (who could cough up money for campaigns at a later date). As for presidents going to israel, did Capehart not do his journalistic research? Reagan never went to israel in 8 years and George W. Bush only went in his 8th year.

Is that The Declaration of an acceptable state of Israel for the enlightened Jewish community.

When asked to comment on Obama and Romney’s repeated lauding of Israel, Elhanan said: “This is a ridiculous situation. If these candidates really supported Israel, they would object to the destructive course of its government.”
