On two stories in a row last night on National Public Radio, reporters promoted Israel and its army as a model to the United States in the ways that it deploys women in combat. First Ailsa Chang:
CHANG: [Yale professor Gene] Fidell points to other countries with similar legal systems that have already stripped commanders of the power to make trial decisions, among them Britain, Canada and Israel. Ailsa Chang, NPR News, the Capitol.
This was followed immediately by a piece of pure Israel propaganda from Larry Abramson, who used the angle of women in combat to celebrate Israel as a moral beacon to Jews all over the world and the IDF as a “rite of passage” for minorities.
The Israel Defense Forces plays a number of roles that go far beyond just defending the country. It is also a melting pot that allows immigrants and minority groups to join in the same rite of passage.
That’s what struck Leora Prince when the New Jersey native visited Israel after high school. She saw lots of young people joined in a common purpose.
“That were completely, selflessly guarding over the country,” Prince recalls. “And I wanted to be a part of that.” That explains why this 21-year-old is now serving as a sergeant in the Israel Defense Forces. She immigrated, learned Hebrew and put on a uniform.
I wonder how Palestinians feel about that rite of passage…

With all the divison in the US we are ripe for a ‘common cause’ movement…it would be a ‘simplifier, a sort of respite for public from the tiring political mishmash and complications .
NPR is closer to the Weekly Standard on matters Israel than it is with The Nation.
There’s so many people like Abramson at NPR who have been there forever and keep spewing their Zionist bile.
