Some pro-Israel images to ease you into the weekend

on 16 Comments

It’s Friday, and March madness is upon us. So here’s some pro-Israel iconography for your viewing pleasure as we get ready for the weekend.

I saw this image of Tzipi Livni wearing a blue crown on a J Street facebook page. I must admit it leaves me cold. (Maybe because Livni always reads as tough, and she had such a hand in the Gaza slaughter.)

More, better. Yesterday the National Lawyers Guild said boldly that Northeastern University was deferring to big pro-Israel donors in its cowardly decision to suspend the Students for Justice in Palestine chapter there. NLG specifically called out the school’s dependence on Robert Shillman, an electrical engineer and entrepreneur from Massachusetts who supports the Israeli Defense Forces. NLG said Shillman is

an NU alumni who paid for the construction of Shillman Hall (and, presumably, the prominently displayed statue of himself and his cat).

Here’s that sculpture (per the Northeastern newspaper).

Here is another version of the statue in Israel (at the Technion institute in Haifa, according to Wikipedia).

I bet Shillman has a couple more up his sleeve. Maybe we could get one at the new Technion in New York City?

This one is for popular-culture types. I had to look up Blair Underwood (actor, LA Law), testing out Israeli military equipment in Israel, per the IDF‘s twitter feed.

And also from the Israeli Defense Forces, a Shabbat message. And not in Hebrew– so it’s for us over here.

Shabbat Shalom from the IDF!

Shabbat Shalom from the IDF!

I have a lot to learn about Shabbat!

Oh and this just in from Ronnie Barkan‘s facebook page. With the post below.

For several years now, Israel has been at war with my darling niece.

Those who are responsible for her education have taken up the task of destroying any chance of her growing up to become a decent person, by indoctrinating her into an ultra nationalist and militant way of “thinking”.

The picture was taken at a well regarded kindergarten in an upper middle class suburb of Tel-Aviv, apartheid Israel.

Thanks to Ofer Neiman.

    I don’t roll on Shabbos

Shabbat Shalom- with the guns- it’s nuts if you think about it.
But Bots aren’t encouraged to think, are they ?

i’m surprised that jews in israel would use the german term kindergarten. i’ve read where in many jewish schools they have paranoidly banned the use of the internationally historical + sign because it is too close for comfort to the symbol of Christ. seems like the little jewish kids are taught to hate Jesus.
by the way, not many ziomedia brainwashed idiotic americans know Jesus is the most revered prophet next to mohamed in the muslim faith.

Is this what our British cousins refer to as “sick-making”?

Re the Livni image, is this a makeshift suggestion of the crown on the Statue of Liberty?

The elementary school exhibit certainly is. But you must keep in mind on this one British skill with understatement……..

On a related note, Israel will pay Israelis living in US (dual citizens) to come home:
The amount of money the Israeli government has allotted to budget this enterprise is about the same as American taxpayers give Israel directly per year.

With the correction that it’s $M not $B, i.e. 1/10 of our aid, I/you/we are still subsidizing this with fungible aid funds.

All while cutting food aid domestically.

This is a discussion starter Citizen. Thanks.

“Shillman believes in the Jewish philosophy of Tikkun olam, and sits on philanthropic boards of The Friends of the Israel Defense Forces, The Jewish Foundation for the Righteous and the David Horowitz Freedom Center”

Tikkun Olam (repair the world) for whom though? Is it a self serving (group serving) meme?

“Repair the world”? Mighty ambitious for this pack of prevaricating, plundering pirates.

Why not take a more modest approach : ‘Physician, heal thyself”? And it wouldn’t be a bad idea for the first RX to sign on to be Dr. Charles Krauthammer.

Repairing the world sounds great. When are they going to start?

MY COMMENT: ¡Blair Underwood es muy macho! As are many homophobes.

[EXCERPT] Hollywood agents are buzzing that the show “DIRTY SEXY MONEY” was pulled from the schedule after Blair Underwood refused for his character to play a bi-sexual role. One agent said that “the show isn’t officially canceled because the station is looking for a replacement but is afraid to alienate viewers”.
Despite fans petitioning on line, ABC has unofficially decided to cancel “Dirty Sexy Money” according to co-star Blair Underwood.“As far as I’m concerned, we’re not doing any more shows,” says the actor, who played Simon Elder on the series. “ABC officially doesn’t want to use the C-word—canceled—but we’re not on the schedule. I would pretty much say we’re canceled.”
Apparently Underwood, who’s often played the “sexual black-man” in a number of films in TV roles was “furious” at the thought of his character being bisexual. . .

Listening to the radio last night, I discovered something that would be rather more fun for the weekend – and thought provoking. How often have commenters wondered about the impact of their lives on children of settlers? Nir Paldi tries to find some answers:

“Certain art forms lend themselves to the Israel-Palestine conflict: epic, despondent, near-silent cinema, say, or interminable sagas about intransigent politics. But a camp, twinkle-eyed cabaret fronted by a man in gold lamé evening dress?

This is Ballad of the Burning Star, a fiercely emotional attempt to understand the complexity of the occupation and its psychological impact on Israeli and Palestinian people. The show’s highly successful run at the Edinburgh festival last summer was also contentious, with some people walking out, furious at its perceived antisemitism, and one man attempting to halt proceedings for a live debate.”

The interview gave some interesting insights into Nir Paldi’s childhood – he said he was scarred by living in a settlement:

(My computer’s failing to load it properly, the interview should be between min 35 and 45)

The show’s due to go on tour, so I hope it gets somewhere near me! I’m sure it’s too hot for the US, being anti-occupation *and* in drag!

So Shillman’s cat can be in two places at the same time.

    Those silly Israeli soldiers.
How will those olive green fatigues camouflage them on that lush, green lawn?

LOL. Really? I saw him on “Sex and the City”. He played Miranda’s boyfriend. Also, I saw him on “The New Adventures of Old Christine”. I used to find him really hot. Now that I know he’s an IDF fan, my opinion changed.
