Last week, 88 senators, including many progressives, warned President Obama in an AIPAC letter not to lift a finger to try to create a Palestinian state in his last few months of office.
Well now the execrable rightwing rabbi Shmuley Boteach joins the fun. This ad appeared in the New York Times today. Presumably paid for by Sheldon Adelson, it holds President Obama’s legacy over him and says that it’s all in jeopardy if Obama pushes for the creation of a Palestinian state in “Judea and Samaria.”
President Obama, as you leave office keep your friendship with Israel intact. Live by your own pledge: “There is no shortcut to the end of a conflict that has endured for decades… Peace will not come through statements and resolutions at the United Nations.'”
In other words, conflict management and apartheid, forever.
Boteach thinks that threatening powerful non-Jews over Israel will work. Well it has before. He’s done it with Samantha Power, Susan Rice, Cory Booker. Though thankfully Booker broke free at the end, during the Iran deal. The rabbi thinks that the Israel issue has such an overwhelming presence in the moral zeitgeist that he can wield it as cudgel to bend even a US president to his will. The chutzpah of the Israel lobby! But: AIPAC is working right alongside him. And everybody knows what happened to Jimmy Carter.
In Haaretz, Rogel Alpher says what no one in American media will say: that AIPAC “members are rich, influential Jews who live in America and have appointed themselves to represent my interests and to protect me” and have no desire to live in Israel. But AIPAC is destroying Israel.
Who elected AIPAC? Who elected [Haim] Saban? Those Jews in America are literally ruining my life here.

I have just endured circa 30 mins of pure hypocracy from Samantha (give me ) Power at the UN emergency meeting relaying stories from Aleppo .She spoke of Hospitals being bombed and the consequent deaths of many civilians .She quoted survivors as saying , “we have nowhere to go”. She spoke of “Syrian Government /Russian –War crimes and maybe these accusations have credibility but any mention of Israeli War crimes is met with unfettered anger.
This is the same contemptible criminal who from the same building some 2 years ago told us ” Israel has a right to defend itself ” but made no mention of Palestinians having nowhere to go as Israel,s bombs fell on their hospitals and schools and UN shelters while trapped inside the prison that is Gaza.
Will no one rid us of these trouble makers . They are a threat to all of us.
They are afraid that in his final days as President, Obama will finally do the RIGHT THING and try to push forward a 2SS, which will only make the zionist master plan have a major set back. They WANT to keep occupying and stealing lands that belong to those they wield power over, the helpless Palestinians who have had no help from world powers. US leaders send a paltry (compared to the mega billions we send the occupier) sum of aid, just to keep the Palestinians temporarily afloat, and that the occupation does not end in deaths due to starvation.
Schmuckly Boteach is a disgusting slime ball, who is doing the dirty work for the zionists, even challenging his own President, in this instance. He is making sure that this nation keeps making the right decisions for an alien rogue nation, even if it is the WRONG one for us.

It should make any rational person wonder as to why this man does not want PEACE for his people. Stealing lands and Occupation, YES, but peace NO. It is easy to call a Palestinian state a “terror state” but facts show that the side that can be considered a “terror state” is the one who is occupying, stealing, and sending precision bombs into homes.

I’m starting to think the struggle isn’t about some Jewish position of leadership for Palestinian justice in what seems to be somewhat self-defined as an issue on which Jews must be leaders, but rather a struggle for a consistent, non-insular morality from which Jews (as a named moral force for good, eg. JVP, NOT as individuals who already have the morality) might join the fight sometime in the future pending the outcome of some lengthy internal debate.
The rest of us are moving on relatively quickly.
