The US was the only country in the world to oppose a resolution calling for Israel to be held accountable for war crimes, at the 29th regular session of the United Nations Human Rights Council, held from 15 June to 3 July 2015. The US voted against “ensuring accountability and justice for all violations of international law in” the Occupied Palestinian Territories.

The Canary Mission is a covert group of Israel supporters whose mission is to release the private information of supporters of Palestinian human rights, international law, and the peaceful Boycott, Divestment, and Sanctions (BDS) movement, in an explicit effort to prevent them from getting jobs. Many commentators have accused the Canary Mission of “McCarthyist tactics” and “open racism” and have described the furtive group as “neo-McCarthyist” but parts of the mainstream media is downplaying the threat to free speech.

Shachar Berrin, IDF soldier of 19, is going to prison for a week because during the public filming of a television program on May 14, he spoke about the widespread racism he has seen among Israeli occupation forces. He recalled an incident in which an Israeli soldier told fellow IDF troops to stop harassing Christian tourists because “come on, they are people, not Palestinians.”

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu claimed Jerusalem has always been the capital “of the Jewish people alone, not of any other people” at a Jerusalem Day ceremony on Ammunition Hill, in Israeli-occupied East Jerusalem on May 17. Netanyahu also pledged to “continue to build and nurture [Jerusalem], to expand her neighborhoods.”

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu decided to appoint Ayelet Shaked as justice minister in his fourth government. During Israel’s summer 2014 attack on Gaza, Shaked essentially called for the genocide of Palestinians. In a Facebook post on July 1—a day before Israeli extremists kidnapped Palestinian teenager Muhammad Abu Khdeir and burned him alive—the lawmaker asserted that “the entire Palestinian people is the enemy” and called for its destruction, “including its elderly and its women, its cities and its villages, its property and its infrastructure.”

Approximately 1,000 Ethiopian Israelis took to the streets of Jerusalem on the evening of April 30 to protest police brutality and systemic racism. Numerous journalists reported that the protesters were chanting “Baltimore is here!”, connecting their struggle against racist brutality in Israel to the struggle of black Americans against racist brutality in the US.

UC Berkeley Students for Justice in Palestine (SJP) and allies have faced a stream of malicious attacks from a variety of pro-Israel forces. Most of these have gone unrecognized by the administration, and the student newspaper The Daily Californian has, in the view of SJP students, only helped to stifle their voices.

Evangelical pastor John Hagee, the leader of Christians United for Israel (CUFI), the US’ largest pro-Israel organization and the most powerful group in the Christian Zionist movement, has adamantly insisted that Christian Zionism is anti-Semitic.

On March 17, the day of the 2015 Israel election, Prime Minister Netanyahu warned Jewish Israelis that Arabs were voting “in droves.” The New York Times published an article about the incident—and more generally about Netanyahu’s bigoted, jingoistic, far-right tactics to attract more votes—titled “Netanyahu Expresses Alarm That Arab Voter Turnout Could Help Unseat Him.” Several hours later, the NYT published a rewrite of the article—a rewrite not just of parts of it, but of all of it. According the the website NewsDiffs, between 5:13 pm and 9:08 pm 100% of the article was re-written to mostly erase the focus on Netanyahu’s racism.
