Mohammad, today it has been 32 days since that Israeli artillery shrapnel killed you. The situation in Gaza is getting worse. People who have survived this genocide so far do not feel lucky at all. On the contrary, they envy those killed by Israel.

Mohammed Alremeili

It has been a week now since that Israeli shrapnel killed you. I promise I will never stop writing to you. I promise I will never stop sending greetings to you. I promise I will never make peace with any of them, Mohammad.

Doaa Alremeili is constantly searching for any news she can of her family in Gaza. Any relief she finds regarding their safety is fleeting.

My freedom ticket was not the mere $500 I paid to leave. They charged me 29 years of my life.

Yitzhak Rabin, Shimon Peres, Benjamin Netanyahu, Ehud Barak, Ariel Sharon. Those are the names of the culprits who slaughtered my childhood. Then Ehud Olmert, Netanyahu again, and Naftali Bennet, are guilty of burying my youth under the rubble.

Palestinian families aren’t done crying over the 232 loved ones they lost in Israel’s last “war” in May of 2021. Hospitals haven’t finished treating many of the 1900 people who were injured in that attack, and now this latest round of aggression is piling on the cases they have to treat. Neither were the humanitarian organizations able to rebuild all the damaged sectors in time for the latest onslaught.

In a monumental development, thanks to Joe Biden Palestinians will finally get 4G. Freedom, however, will have to wait.

These words you’re about to read are one year old. And yet every time I read them I relive them again. I wrote this article as a reflection of the most horrific night that my family and I witnessed during the last Israeli war against Gaza in May 2021.

As Doaa Alremeili watches Israel welcoming Ukrainian Jewish refugees who will join its army and oppress Palestinians, she dreams of getting out of besieged Gaza and studying in Egypt. “I have survived four wars so far. And every level gets more difficult to pass. In every war of them, I was unarmed, unprotected and waiting for death. I’m in my late twenties and I have never stepped out of Gaza. I don’t know what Jerusalem really looks like or the Pyramids or Mecca or Minnesota.”
