Palestinians living inside Israel have dealt with a “one-state solution” for 69 years. The next step in the Palestinian demand for freedom should be to expand their civil struggle for equal rights on behalf of Palestinians everywhere, writes Rida Abu Rass.
Rida Abu Rass writes, “Some may argue that the Nakba is an ongoing process, or rather, that it never really ended. Yet, bearing in mind the frightening political processes that are unfolding within Israel, one should wonder whether we are heading towards another catastrophe. So let us ask: how likely is is it for an ethnic cleansing of Palestinians to occur once again, similar to (or worse than) 1948? Surprisingly, I find that the Israeli Left never seriously raises this as a possibility.”
Rida Abu Rass shares the speech she wishes Mahmoud Abbas had given at the UN last week. It includes: “We did our best to accommodate the Israeli need for a state alongside us, but the geopolitical reality that Israel created renders this solution impossible. On behalf of all Palestinians, I declare that our hands are still open to designing a peaceful solution for the region, but this time, as equal partners in our shared homeland.”
