Members of the Salhiya family in the occupied East Jerusalem neighborhood of Sheikh Jarrah faced off against Israeli police on Monday morning, as Israeli forces attempted to forcibly remove them from their home. A number of the young men in the family barricaded themselves on the roof of the home in an effort to stop the removal, and several news outlets quoted Mahmoud Salhiya as saying that he would set himself on fire and blow the house with the gas tank if the eviction was carried out.

Videos and photos of Israeli police violently suppressing Palestinian Bedouins in the Naqab have been flooding social media, as the campaign to #savethenaqab gained momentum amidst growing Israeli efforts to forcibly expel Palestinians from their lands. 

Palestinian media reported that 80-year-old Omar Abdulmajeed Asaad, a Palestinian-American dual citizen, died of a heart attack early Wednesday morning after he was arrested by Israeli forces during a raid on his hometown of Jiljilya.

Addameer is one of six Palestinian NGOs designated by Israel as a terror organization. The prisoners rights group says the accusations against them are unfounded, and could have potentially devastating consequences for the Palestinian human rights movement.

Thursday morning, Israelis forces killed a young Palestinian man in a predawn raid on the Balata refugee camp. Hours later an Israeli settler committed a car-ramming attack against a Palestinian man near Ramallah, killing him.

Palestinian prisoner Hisham Abu Hawash entered his 140th day on hunger strike on Monday, and according to his family is in such critical condition that he could “die at any moment.”

2021 was a watershed year for Palestinians. The struggle for Palestinian freedom and liberation saw unprecedented levels of global solidarity and unity amongst Palestinians despite their forced fragmentation. The year did not come without its challenges, however.

Several Palestinians were injured and 63-year-old Ghadeer Fuqaha Masalmeh was killed on Friday, as a wave of Israeli settler attacks on Palestinians and their homes has swept across the occupied West Bank. Masalmeh is the third Palestinian to be killed in the West Bank over the past week. 2021 has seen a staggering rise in settler violence, with UN OCHA reporting at least 450 settler attacks against Palestinians and their property as of December 6th.

A wave of settler violence spread across the occupied West Bank in the early hours of Friday morning, severely injuring several Palestinians and causing damage to their property, in a series of “revenge” attacks following the killing of an Israeli settler. 

Israel’s 11-day offensive on Gaza last May claimed 259 Palestinian lives, and the UK nonprofit Airwars estimated that between 151 and 192 were “non-combatant” civilians. On just one day Israel killed more than 56 civilians in what has come to be known as the al-Wahda street massacre, while targeting tunnels in Gaza City. Of these, at least 25 fatalities were likely children.
