The church’s action follows resolutions by two other religious bodies at their summer meetings — the Presbyterian Church (USA) and the American Academy of Religion — both of which named Israel’s war on Gaza a genocide.

“The [recent] Advisory Opinion by the International Court of Justice,” Archbishop Justin Welby writes, “makes definitively clear that Israel’s presence in the Occupied Palestinian Territories is unlawful and needs to end as rapidly as possible.”

Although unable to find evidence of antisemitism, a Church of England tribunal banned Rev. Dr. Stephen Sizer, a noted critic of Christian Zionism, from clergy activities for 12 years.
