The United States has the dubious distinction of being the world’s leading arms dealer. It dominates the global trade in a historic fashion and nowhere is that domination more complete than in the Middle East.

Sexual and gendered practices in Arab society stand at the core of the novel “Against the Loveless World,” with author Susan Abulhawa going full force in a critique of patriarchy: With the exception of the Palestinian underground heroes of both sexes, most gendered interrelations in the novel reflect poorly on the male players.

The Palestinian Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions National Committee (BNC) warmly welcomes the decision by the Kuwait City Municipality exclude the French company Veolia from a huge solid waste management contract, valued at $750 million, citing the BNC appeal to that affect. Basing its decision on Veolia’s complicity in Israeli projects that violate international law, the municipality also decided to exclude Veolia from “all future projects.”
