2022 has been another monumental year in the growth of the Palestinian-led BDS movement. Here are some victories from the last year that you might have missed.
This week the White House announced that it was beginning to develop a national strategy to combat antisemitism. It’s too soon to know what this effort will look like, but there are concerns it will include the IHRA working definition of antisemitism, which has been used to target critics of Israel.
Given that there were so many important BDS fights in 2021, here are some products you probably won’t be interested in this holiday season, and the activists you can thank for it.
Puma is moving its corporate headquarters to Boston and BDS activists there are planning on targeting the shoe maker over its sponsorship of Israel’s football league. “It’s not just about sneakers and jerseys, it’s about confronting the ties we have as taxpayers in this country,” activist Lea Hana tells Mondoweiss.
This year has been a slog, but from the Squad to BDS victories there have also been things to celebrate in 2020.
Puma has been calling for action against hate. But Palestinian footballer Mahmoud Sarsak asks, “So why is Puma supporting the hate which is destroying lives and poisoning the beautiful game?”
Palestinians activists are protesting this weekend at storefronts and offices for the German athletic wear manufacturer Puma. The reason? Puma sponsors the Israel Football Association (IFA), which includes six teams in settlements in the West Bank.
