On March 30, Israel’s Supreme Court postponed a critical hearing on the fate of al-Walaja, a Palestinian village along the southern edge of Jerusalem. Praised as a victory by residents, the postponement effectively extends a demolition freeze on 38 homes. But the threat to this ancient agricultural village remains.

Earlier this month a leaked memo revealed that that Anti-Defamation League (ADL) leaders had debated ending their controversial police delegations to Israel two years ago. Activists say the memo shows why progressive groups should cut ties with the organization.

On March 30, thousands of Palestinians attended the yearly commemoration of Land Day in Gaza. Tareq Hajjaj walked through the crowd and asked attendees – “What does Land Day mean to you?” Answers varied, but most included the statement: “the land means our existence.”

There are conflicting reports whether the Sierra Club has canceled plans for educational trips to Israel that were supposed to begin this month. It was originally reported that the environmental organization made the decision to cancel the trip after discussions between members of its board and a coalition of Palestine advocacy groups. But now, the Times of Israel is reporting the environmental organization has buckled under pressure from the Israel lobby.

Amnesty International USA Executive Director Paul O’Brien is being attacked by lawmakers for saying Israel “shouldn’t exist as a Jewish state.” 25 Jewish Congressmen put out a statement condemning the remarks as allegedly antisemitic. O’Brien “has added his name to the list of those who, across centuries, have tried to deny and usurp the Jewish people’s independent agency, the statement reads.

As Doaa Alremeili watches Israel welcoming Ukrainian Jewish refugees who will join its army and oppress Palestinians, she dreams of getting out of besieged Gaza and studying in Egypt. “I have survived four wars so far. And every level gets more difficult to pass. In every war of them, I was unarmed, unprotected and waiting for death. I’m in my late twenties and I have never stepped out of Gaza. I don’t know what Jerusalem really looks like or the Pyramids or Mecca or Minnesota.”

House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer tweets about the Ukraine while a photo shows him to be in Israel on the tab of the Israel lobby group AIPAC. Bill Keating is Chair of the House Foreign Affairs Subcommittee on Europe, so he’s been tweeting a lot about Ukraine, but not a word about being in Israel on the AIPAC trip. Other Reps also seem bashful about the junket, including Kathleen Rice who gave AIPAC a video testimonial from the occupied Golan Heights.

Tensions are flaring again in Sheikh Jarrah as right-wing Israeli lawmakers and Jewish settlers continue to incite violence ahead of the looming displacement of another Palestinian family from the occupied East Jerusalem neighborhood. Scuffles ensued over the weekend after the far- right Israeli lawmaker, Itamar Ben Gvir of the Religious Zionism alliance, “opened” an office in Sheikh Jarrah, on the property of the Salem family, who are under threat of expulsion.
