Palestinians reflect on the past 30 years since the first Oslo Accords were signed and all the ways in which the agreement impacted their lives, pushing them even further away from achieving liberation and statehood.

U.S. Secretary of State Colin Powell met with Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat inside Arafat's besieged headquarters in the West Bank town of Ramallah on April 17, 2002. Neta Golan recounts the day in 2002 when Colin Powell visited a besieged Yasser Arafat in his presidential compound in Ramallah during the Second Intifada, as international solidarity activists tried to protect the Palestinian leader from Israeli attack.

To say the current Palestinian political crisis is simply a Hamas-Fatah split is to ignore a history of division that cannot be solely blamed on Palestinians.

In order to legitimise the Jews’ right to Palestine, Zionism sought to delegitimise the Palestinian existence in the land. That involved a largely psychological process of ‘nativisation’ of European Jews and ‘de-nativisation’ of Palestinians. The term ‘Arab’ was one of the tactics used to achieve such goal.

Atlantic editor Jeffrey Goldberg derides American political culture as ignorant and ahistorical and says he is a “misanthrope”, while extolling Zionism. “All of Judaism is Zionism because we are a universal religion focused on a very particular place.” Anti-Zionism is essentially murderous, he said, aimed at the “soul” of the Jewish people.
