Introducing The Flake, in a Scatological Turn of Mind

One of the cool things about blogging is it makes you take responsiblity for your thoughts. Buddha said we are the sum of all our thoughts, and blogging makes you own them. Because as a blogger, you need all the thoughts you got; the people are waiting on the edges of their Herman Miller chairs for your latest stunning idea, so you got to produce.

Anyway, one of the things I’m forced to admit about myself is I’m a giant flake. So every once in a while here, in between being serious and persuasive, I will assume the robes of full flakitude. Thus the category, Flake’o.

Which is so much throatclearing to this point. A friend’s father who is a leading captain of industry has told his son (and my friend has told me) that the most important unit of a man’s production on any given day, indeed the first true sign of whether it will be a good day in the bloody alleys of business, is the very first thing he produces. To be bald about it: what he drops in the can. How that goes, etc. I told my friend Jo this yesterday, hiking, and she seconded him vigorously. “There’s nothing like a good dump. There is just nothing like it. And I’ll tell you the worst thing, is all the people who go around saying, It’s no big deal.”

This is offered without taking a side, though I’m generally sympathetic (and truthfully I dislike toilet humor). Agree/disagree?
