The Kids Behind Obama

Just saw Obama’s speech. The most uplifting amazing speech I can remember. The comparison of the revolutionaries of ’76 who broke an empire to the freedom riders and marchers of ’64 who braved firehoses–breaks my American heart. I think the guy’s going to win (forget my predictions of Edwards, whose speech was too sharp, or Huckabee, whose speech was a lot of charming bromides, empty of significance).

Did you notice the kids behind Obama? Hillary was surrounded by party leaders, pols, professionals. Obama spoke in the round, and whenever he offered a stirring, idealistic thought, about America regaining its place in the world, or acting on climate change, or overcoming racial discrimination, or fighting the lobbyists, you saw kids nodding with what seemed tears in their eyes. One in particular had a funky bohemian hat and a thick beard and a t-shirt on. This is ’60s energy, baby. Oohlala!

Was Obama's real estate partner and lunch associate, Tony Rezko, standing in the crow behind Obama? I'm sure all that stuff is just a coincidence, aren't we all in some sort of a land deal with some mobbed up guy?

The main point remains, only one candidate of substance is committed to peace and it's not Obama. It's Ron Paul. Obama and the rest of the Democrats are just as committed to funding Israeli Settlements as the neocons are.

  2. Charles Keating says:

I agree with Chuck. Hey, 10% in Iowa, so maybe 20% in NH? So far, none of the TV channels have talked about RP at all. Kids who know nothing but yearn for change vote Obama; kids who
actually know something about the whole system and want change will vote for RP.

Which goddam speech? Where? For those of us who are TV illiterates couldnt you give us a link?

I agree with Chuck and Charles Keating. Obama's speech sounded like he had won the presidential election, not the Iowa Caucus. Ron Paul is being marginalized by the Mainstream Media, and it will take a lot of grass roots effort to get him the votes that he needs. That said, NH is well-known for a population with an independent-thinking streak, so who knows? Maybe you're right, Charles, 20%+ in NH. Go Ron go.

There's only one candidate with integrity, and that's RP.

I understand that in US 'democracy' image always trumps reality, but I still find it odd that intelligent people should also be taken in by the magic of empty words. Reading Phil's post piqued my curiosity enough to go and watch the Obama speech. I don't think I could up with a better description than 'charming bromides, empty of significance'. If you fancy a bucket-load of platitudes delivered with mock earnestness, then yes, expect to she some tears of satisfaction. Otherwise you'll be left as underwhelmed as I am. Notice that he still doesn't say anything about what he stands for, except he has christened it 'change'. A while back I had tried to find out Obama's position on key issues and frankly i had trouble locating the 'change' bit.

  6. Charles Keating says:

Read Obama's books; he is a racist to the core. I don't blame him for ignoring his mother and her grandparents who raised him and footed the expensive bill for his private education, but I blame the idiot Americans who actually vote for him, a guy who wouldn't have a chance in hell except as running as a black man.
