Georgia Overplayed Its Hand Because It Figured It Was Another Israel

Speaking of Jewish origins in western Asia, Arnaud de Borchgrave has a good piece today on "the Israel of the Caucasus," describing the Georgia crisis as the result of a Tel Aviv-Tbilisi "axis" that the neoconservatives in the Bush administration encouraged. de Borchgrave suggests that Saakashvili in Georgia overplayed his hand because he figured, we're the new Israel. Then no one showed up when his army was crushed. Further evidence that the neoconservative agenda is being discredited in D.C.–with damaging fall-out to the Israel relationship.

It admittedly crossed my mind, how many others? It seemed to hover in the air above discussion panels over here, something approached but never quite touched.

Arnaud de Borchgrave, was one of the earliest critiques of the neo*'s mindset, cleverly resorting to: comment is free, if I remember correctly.

Michael Klare at TomDispatch thinks it's all about Caspian oil and gas (as energy assets of course, but also as leverage over Europe)and Bush/Cheney and the neocons were out-maneuvred by Putin.

xymphora thinks Saakasvili was led to believe (by Cheney, Israel and the neocons) that the US would back him up, but that the Old US Establishment, now silently back in the driver's seat of the MI complex, put the kibosh on it.

    Both may be true.

Israeli Historian: Palestinians Are Biological Descendants of Bible's Jews

it occurred to me that the famous Khazars had their homeland in and round the area now known as Georgia. Given the many reports of Israeli involvement in the Georgia attack on Russia, I wonder if the Georgian attack could be seen as a continuation of the Thousand year old feud between Khazars and the Rus? :)
Another attempted reclamation of a Jewish homeland, anyone? :)

actually, now that I think of it, that's not a bad idea.

Move the settlers (back?) to Gerogia

    After all there's plenty of water there . . . . .

and the Georgians have been at pains to stress how much they love the Israeli's because of all the help they've been receiving

And I'm sure they wouldn't have too much problem learning the language
