I can't wait for Obama to be president and change the way people look at the world. Here is the National in Abu Dhabi picking up Haaretz from Jerusalem on the epidemic of settler violence:
He said the extremists were “enjoying a tailwind and the backing of part of the leadership, both rabbinical and public, whether in explicit statements or tacitly”.
The timing of Gen Shamni’s comments is not accidental. In recent weeks, there has been a spate of settler attacks on soldiers in the West Bank. One had a dog set on him, another’s hand was broken, and a soldier in Hebron was beaten while trying to prevent settler children from throwing stones at Palestinians.
Soldiers were also set upon last month when settlers were tipped off that the army was planning to remove a single family from its makeshift camp at Yad Yair, west of Ramallah. The tyres of 10 military vehicles were slashed.

Break out the Bulldozers and start knocking down the guilty Settlers' homes. The IDF should be uniquely qualified to deal with such groups.

I'm with Eric. Confront them now; it will be terrible, but not as bad as it will get if it festers on for another few years.
Force is the only language 'they' understand… hmmm, that's a familiar phrase.
"“In the past, only a few dozen individuals took part in such activity [settler violence], but today that number has grown into the hundreds.
“That’s a very significant change. These hundreds are engaged in conspiratorial actions against Palestinians and the security forces. It’s a very grave phenomenon.” He said the extremists were “enjoying a tailwind and the backing of part of the leadership, both rabbinical and public, whether in explicit statements or tacitly”. "
As Phil as articulated (not particularly clearly), the big sin of the current world, is in delaying resolving the legal and self-governance issues that reasonable Palestinians have raised, the fanatics on both sides of the issue gain credibility.
The sadness that I experience is in seeing those prospectively rational dissenters end up in solidarity with fanatics. For example, Finkelstein's functional endorsement of Hezbollah following the 2006 idiocies.
Backbone is required to retain one's center of gravity, in all its representative complexity, not just an over-simplification.
Richard,
What you call "2006 idiocies" I call war crimes in which 1200 civilians have been killed in indiscriminate feast of violence.
Hezbollah conducted idiocies, Israel conducted idiocies.
You like Hezbollah?
Long time readers and posters,
Did you notice in the post above that Richard Witty dropped the "h" from the word "has", rendering it "as"? Richard, beware, for you are morphing into Bill P, the dreaded SOG, who also drops the "h" from "has".

Well spotted, Paul Malfara! And here I was, thinking Witty was an aitchless Cockney.
Eliza Doolittle's dropped aitches in 'artford, 'ereford, and 'ampshire gave her away as a poor flower seller.
In Witty's case, mebbe he been studyin' too much of that 'ebrew.

The Israeli invasion of Lebanon was planned between top Israeli officials and members of the Bush administration. On June 17 and 18 (of 2006), former Israeli Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu and Likud Knesset member Natan Sharansky met with Vice President Dick Cheney at the American Enterprise Institute conference in Beaver Creek, Colorado. There, the impending Israeli invasions of both Gaza and Lebanon were discussed. After receiving Cheney's full backing for the invasion of Gaza and Lebanon, Netanyahu flew back to Israel and participated in a special "Ex-Prime Ministers" meeting, in which he conveyed the Bush administration's support for the carrying out of the "Clean Break" policy — the trashing of all past Middle East peace accords, including Oslo…….

Witty,
"Hezbollah conducted idiocies, Israel conducted idiocies.
You like Hezbollah?"
Israel conducted more idiocies (war crimes). Hezbollah conducted fewer idiocies.
You like Israel?

This is incomprehensible sludge. Why you lot bother responding to Witty is beyond me.
