Haaretz: ‘Absolutely Everyone’ in Israel Is Implicated in Sinful Settlements

Brilliant piece by Gideon Levy–only in Haaretz–saying that the peace camp in Israel has been feckless from the start, and all are implicated in the settlers' movement. So much for the accidental empire claims of conscience. And when Levy says that Olmert says (and Emanuel too) there is no "partner for peace," which side are they talking about?

The occupation, the settlements, the police thugs and
the brutality have been victorious over everything else. Never have so
many people said we need to put a stop to things, and never have so few
done anything about it. The
Israeli occupation enterprise has never been so prosperous, sweeping up
in its whirlpool all of Israeli society and a vast army of settlers,
secret agents, soldiers, prosecutors, journalists, politicians, judges,
doctors, engineers, builders, architects, industrialists, artists,
archaeologists and average apathetic citizens. Everyone, absolutely
everyone, is implicated. They speak peace, but make war; oppose the
settlements, but take part in their construction; say "two states," but
vote Likud; close their eyes, hide their faces and wrap themselves in
the most dangerous of blankets: blankets of apathy.

But remember; no pressure on Israel from the U.S.

  1. By writing for Haaretz, Levy gives it undeserved credibility. Haaretz is entirely pre-vetted by military censors, as are all other Israeli newspapers, although even to state this is to contravene the censorship. It has always been thus, it's not new.

Look, it's a deeply chauvinist country, where jewish views of being 'generous' to arabs are not unlike aouthern whites views of being generous to blacks, i.e. usually orientated through a prism of bigotry.

  3. Settlements are a major mechanism for ripping off non-Jews, whether Arabs or Americans.

    Israel elects its Bush

By Gideon Levy @ haaretz.com (Israel)

The elections for the 17th Knesset have already been decided: Benjamin Netanyahu will be the next prime minister. Nothing will change the current trend, which was reflected in polls this weekend. At a time when the entire world, including Israel, is amazed and moved by the miracle election of Barack Obama, Israel is on the verge of electing George Bush.

Tzipi Livni will not become less feeble, and Ehud Barak will not fix his waywardness. And the new left-wing party in the works will not make a difference one way or the other – it is too little, too late. Israelis intend to vote for the conservative, right-wing, nationalist, bellicose candidate – the Israeli Bush. The world is moving forward, while Israel is taking a step backward……….

Netanyahu's not the Israeli "Bush". He's the Israeli Ian Smith.

Ergo, by W&M Realism + Progressive Zionist Talking Points re: Settlements, Israel itself is… wait for itanti-Israel!

Zionism has constructed the perfect enemy, and it is… itself!

    And America too–anti-Israel!

Yes, yes, despite the lapel pins and mini-banners!

(Aside: Would this be more appropriate on American politicians?)

I noticed something else too when I lived there–America is pretty anti-America, too, unless you're pullin' down $250K+/year.

Your post is crap Morris, because Richard Kreege's 'study' is crap. The claim of 100% certainty for results is all I need to hear to know Kreege is a completely incompetent buffoon. There is NO SUCH THING as 100% certainty in results from any SAMPLING methodology, soil core or not. Additionally, digital image processing and interpretation of resultant visualization is also highly nontrivial. If you don't WANT to find a signal in your data, it is very easy to do just that. I am a physical scientist and no slouch in experiment design and data analysis; this smells like a 'Three Stooges' operation a mile away. You holocaust deniers are as emotionally disturbed as the neocoms.

  9. American says:

Of course all the Israelis are guilty for the settlements and the occupation and the collective punishment.

So are many Americans, but they have an excuse…they don't know the truth…our media doesn't let it through.

I don't know about holocaust 'deniers' but the holocuast certainly needs more investigation. There has never been a real investigation. The claims about the holocuast came solely from 'testimony'. In reading thru the Neuremberg Trials there were no supporting documents from the German regime records or the Red Cross..who did visit the camps, btw.

I did look into this some time ago and checked the dates of startup and operation of the two camps that have been called the 'death' camps where the gas chambers were supposedly operated.

My conclusion was that despite the famous German efficency, it would have been next to impossible to gas and cremate 6 million jews in 'ovens'and excute another 5 million Russian prisoners, other undesirables and etc..

According to RC records the first camp installed cremating facilities in late'41 and the other shortly after that and operated thru 1944 (1095 days) they would have had to have gased and cremated 5,479 Jews a day,7 days a week..or 2,739 at each camp, every day, 7 days a week for 3 years. I think that was probably impossible.

I think most likely the dead actually died of starvation and illnesses and some excuted by rifle squads and buried in mass graves and the cremating facilities were used mainly to dispose of diseased bodies.

Another thing that struck me was the population census prior to'40 and how many Jews left Germany and Poland and etc…in Germany for example fewer than 600,000 jews remained after Hitler started allowing (encouraging) jews to leave ..his 'emigration'program for jews. So the logistics alone of finding and transporting 6 million jews to two camps is problematic.

It really does need a through investigation to determine exactly what happen and how it happened.

    FROM THE AUSTRALIAN PRESS:

Israeli hawks ready to fly on Iran
by Paul Sheehan @ "The Sydney Morning Herald"
    November 24, 2008

Prepare for war. Last week I met the Boogie Man, the former head of the Israeli Defence Forces, General Moshe "Boogie" Ya'alon, who is preparing the political groundwork for a military attack on Iran's key nuclear facilities. "We have to confront the Iranian revolution immediately," he told me. "There is no way to stabilise the Middle East today without defeating the Iranian regime. The Iranian nuclear program must be stopped."

Defeating the theocratic regime in Tehran could be economic or political or, as a last resort, military, he said. "All tools, all options, should be considered." He was speaking in the tranquillity of the Shalem Centre in Jerusalem, where he was, until last Thursday, one of Israel's plethora of warrior-scholars, though more influential than most.

Could "all options" include decapitating the Iranian leadership by military strikes, including on President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, who has called for Israel's destruction? "We have to consider killing him," Ya'alon replied. "All options must be considered."

That's why he's called Boogie. This is significant, for several reasons. Ya'alon has decided to enter what he called "the cold waters of Israeli politics". He will run for the conservative Likud party in the general election in Israel on February 10. Likud is leading the opinion polls. So I could have been speaking to Israel's next defence minister or, at least, an influential member of the next cabinet……..

Researching genocides of the second World War is nigh impossible, due to high emotional charge of the deaths. But while other nationalities have moved on, and can step back and look dispassionately at an evidence, the Jewish community considers research by Non-Jews into the holocaust as suspicious at best and sacrileges at worst.

To those of you who do a primitive number crunching as shown above: Thousands of Jews died all throughout the Europe starved into disease and slow death in overcrowded ghettos peppered in the land, not unlike Gaza, only smaller.

"You holocaust deniers are as emotionally disturbed as the neocoms."

Troublesome, isn't it, Rowan? I suppose I must now include holocaust worshipers in the category of idiots who think that zionism is a communist front.

  14. Colin Murray says:

It has been 15 years since I spent a lot of time digging into the Holocaust, and I have since given away all my books, so I don't have specific numbers of how many people died where backed by citations at the tip of my tongue. I do however, remember that, consistent with Eva's statement, death by starvation and malnutrition-exacerbated disease accounted for huge numbers. It is a favorite tactic of mass murderers: it is cheap and exacts the least emotional price from the killers. Most victims of Bolshevik terror died thus, not by the more popularized 'small caliber bullet in the back of the head'. I am sure that there are folks on this forum who are far more versed than I am, and can give references that contain citations to primary documents. There is an enormous amount of evidence, and it nonsense to think that it could all be forged in pre-computer days well enough to retain internal self-consistency under decades of the most suspicious scrutiny. All it takes is one little mistake in a forgery to begin the process of unraveling. Recall the Niger papers, and the currently-under-investigation 'Iranian laptop documents', both likely products of Israeli intelligence or affiliates in the Likud party.

  15. Eurosabra says:

Or it could just be a case of a centralized, Jacobin state existing in a pluralistic civil society where power is diffuse, the result being that people with guns on the fringes can get away with almost anything (look at the Russian mob, for example) unless and until the government uses centralized state power to eradicate it.

There are effective anti-occupation protests, but by people whose parties are out of power and who have failed to mobilize the society as a whole, some of which sees certain settlement blocs as "defense" given the long-term terror war.

The settlements are if anything one example of Israel's taking the Palestinian goal–one state, from the river to the sea–seriously, with a view towards making sure that state is Israel, while the Palestinian nationalists–Islamist supremacists from 1921 onwards, sometimes in Fatah disguise–want it to be a mono-cultural Islamist Palestine.

  16. The point about the Holocaust is not really empirical; it's theological. Holocaustianity has been deliberately and quite consciously designed to become the global, secular humanist religion. Its dynamics are derived from those of Christianity, but with 'the people of Israel' in the place of the sacrificed and resurrected demigod.

  17. observer says:

I agree with Rowan Berkeley next above.

I hope you had a laugh at that joke, Collin. It's not often that you make funny writting errors. I couldn't resist. Maybe you will heal my ill disposition towards you if you would oblige to thank American for that excellent book indication. We here can live with all sorts of discourtesy even the undeserved ones, provided the little bits of courtesy are also offered when plainly deserved.

That, however, will not save you from hearing my tale about what happened to the two-neuroned antisemite in the land of the one-neuroned philosemite. But I will save that for the future, when such tales will be more appreciated.

Indeed, Rowan, but the purpose of this new religion is to return mankind to a state of unmitigated guilty, a state, we are told, was redeemed at the cross.
