but The New Republic is suddenly deeply relevant again. Here's its O-List, a list of Obama's braintrust, advisers, good friends. I'm sure this is somewhat prescriptive–i.e., if I read it closely, I bet I could find many a hidden memo to Obama, and they're not going to list any real progressives. But you got to admire Marty Peretz's gameplaying abilities. P.S. Is it too late for me to suck up to you, Marty?

Good article.
Phil,
Get into some other content area as a dual passion, so that you're not cornered.
Phil, you should put up a Jewish Geography map, so Americans can see the terrain in Washington more clearly. The MSM does not mention such subjects, nor do the politicos answer such questions publicly, but I for one would like to know which leaders are Jewish (secular or religious and how religious), and more importantly where they stand on Zionism, and, finally, whether they would publicly criticize another Jew (other than for being self-hating). The last ought to be a litmus test for Jews seeking public office. Since the question is not publicly discussed, and to discuss it would force people to either air their criticisms or deny that there is anything to criticize, the refusal to discuss it ought to be an indication of flunking the test. A full-throated public debate among American Jews over the way forward in Israel, however, is long overdue, and is the single most important contribution American Jews could make to America [and Israel for that matter] today. Pretending that Israeli citizens can take over so many of the levers of American power while enforcing a code of public silence about these issues is to treat non-Jewish Americans in bad faith.
Ask Jerry Springer, he knows the full score.
I get what your saying Doppler. Don't worry, Phil counts the long hooked noses himself. But I understand what your saying. We need to bring back the yellow stars and tattoos. How else can a guy like you be sure who is a kike who isn't. right.
You know Anon, I'm surprised that a mick like you is up. I thought you'd still be drying out from last night.
What do you seek to accomplish, Sword?
You can't rationally criticize Phil for posting on Yom Kippur, while you (and I) post on Shabbat.
Sword,
I don't care if someone is a Jew, but I do care if someone is a Jew and follows the rule that he cannot criticize another Jew in front of non-Jews and is holding or seeking public office. Why shouldn't I care? What am I, chopped liver? It's every citizen's obligation to care about accountability in government.
Hey Sword, look at it this way, you'd be able to tell if Phil is a Jew–we all know you always count noses. BTW, what is a "mick?"
Please enlighten us all. Is it like a "camel jockey?" Or a "Polack?"
Or any of those other charming terms you regularly use?
Also, what do you mean by"drying out from last night?"
Sword, your comment made me smile and read Dopplers.
There is only one way: prove that Bush & his administration tricked the Congress, Senate and American people into the Iraq war. Find out the main people responsible and persecute them for murder.
That would be a big step towards good governance. No need to count noses or anything else, all that is needed is: Accountability.
That would start a new era.
Dennis K has tried to do this. Please talk about what could be, not what should be. It's not like the USA is really "free."
