Jewish reporter for ‘Forbes’ admits censoring himself about Jewish angle when on national television

Robert Lenzner is a reporter for Forbes who was on the Leon Charney Report the other night–a somewhat smalltime show that airs on Channel 25 in New York and often has a Jewish theme to it. Charney served under Jimmy Carter and is a smart guy who could care less about being telegenic.

Charney and Lenzner and Stewart Ain of the Jewish Week were talking about the Madoff scandal and the Jewish angle, and Lenzner agreed that there was a strong Jewish element to Madoff's world/victims, and then caught himself. No transcript, dearies; the actual show is not up yet, my reporter here is the unimpeachable James North; and North says that Lenzner said in essence: Do you think we could edit that out? When I'm on CNBC I don't mention the Jewish angle.

To their credit, Charney and Ain both said, No the Jewish angle is important, we're going with this.

It is a small moment but important. Lenzner is the most mainstream of the three men. He is Jewish, highly-educated, and said to be menschy. And here he admitted that he censors himself when discussing these issues before a national audience. This is hardly an aberration. It shows the degree to which successful American Jews are simply incapable of publicly discussing an important fact, the Jewish presence in Establishment life, presumably because pogroms would eventuate. Can you imagine anything like this sort of censorship when discussing the Christian right and stem-cell research? Or George Bush's religious/social background? Jewish journos, jump up to it. See where you stand. And what is your responsibility, as journalists no less, to this nation that has given us so much?

I think it's too late to fess up. Who trusts the media anymore? I think more people whisper about the Jewish angle than media-types suspect, but honesty on the part of the media wouldn't help much at this point. Besides, a complicit media would only be capable of spin. The future will bring what it brings.

The Boston Globe on Sunday published an op-ed column in which Mitchel Zuckoff discussed Madoff and Ponzi, but so far no one but me has mentioned Madoff's infamous 19th century Jewish antecedent Bethel Henry Strousberg, whom I discuss here.

How embarrassing, especially fur die goyim, that Madoff was chairman of Yeshiva's Sy Syms School of Business. That's the same Syms whose clothing stores spout the slogan "An Educated Consumer is Our Best Customer."

Those who think Jewish bankers or wealthy Jews manipulate finances and politics for the benefit of their ethnic group should pay attention to who Madoff targeted for his fraud. Bankers and other industrial groups act in the best interests of themselves or their industries, not in the interests of whichever ethnic groups they appear to belong to.

Warum fur die Goyim?

Tommy, I think it makes sense to hold some judgement until it is known who the beneficiaries of Madoff's scam were. Wasn't Madoff a major contributor to Jewish charities? How long before he is spun as a Jewish Robin Hood?

For the life of me I just can't understand why these Jews are so paranoid about pogroms. I'm sure good men like Todd would stop anyone who would attempt to round up the little jewish kiddies and kill them.

"I'm sure good men like Todd would stop anyone who would attempt to round up the little jewish kiddies and kill them."

It's highly unlikely that I'll ever have to stop an attempt to round up Jews of any age, but you could stand up against those who put Israeli or Jewish interests before the interests or America and Americans.

"Not in front of the goyim" seems to be the standard policy as well as the aversion to "A shande far di goyim" – "A shame in front of the goyim,"

FROM PHIL: "Can you imagine anything like this sort of censorship when discussing the Christian right and stem-cell research?"

ME: The press is generally afraid (or unwilling) to refer to 'Evangelical Christians' as anything other than "social conservatives", "values voters" or "the base of the GOP".

I'll fight for US Jews and maybe to protect Israel's existence; but certainly not to protect the settlements; which is, I am afraid, what has been happening, in effect.

So, Mr. Hume, you will jump into the trench with a rifle and bayonet a la Bill Clinton to protect US Jews, including those who have been
funding the settlements, including with your tax dollars? Maybe you should check out security guard job opportunities with AIPAC or JINSA, etc?

"I'll fight for US Jews and maybe to protect Israel's existence"

Go to Iraq then. The US army is full of opportunities for those wanting to kill, die, and lose their limbs for US jews and Israel.
