Dual loyalty issue said to damage Ross bid to honcho Iran portfolio

Here's a report that Dennis Ross's candidacy to be Iranian envoy could be torpedoed by his heading the Jewish People Policy Planning Institute and not registering as an agent of a foreign government. The source is IRMEP, the investigative org that has made this issue one of its big concerns, and you say, Who cares about IRMEP? Rumor has it the Wall Street Journal has been working the story. We are getting closer to the day when Jewish identity becomes a political issue. Are you a Zionist? Why? Do you feel unsafe here? Why not move to Israel? Oh so you need to support Israel from here? OK, good for you; register here, and tell me something, does Israel afford anything like the minority freedom you experience in this country to its minority?

I'd never heard of the 'Jewish People Policy Planning Institute.' And no wonder — the link reveals that it's in Jerusalem, established by the Jewish Agency in 2002.

So Dennis Ross is literally working for a foreign government. That's not illegal, of course. But it raises a serious question about Ross's judgment — how can he imagine that he would be qualified to represent the U.S. government, while serving in an institute sponsored by a foreign government?

the trouble is, anyone can put anything they like on PRNEWSWIRE, it is a commercial service open to all. Reuters copies the story, but not in a way that inspires much confidence in their intention to widely circulate it:

You would be happy that JEWISH IDENTITY becomes a political issue Phil?

    Did you really say that?

Isn't Israel the same as the US? aren't their interests totally overlaping all the time? guess what, Rahm Israel Emanuel has been serving in the Israeli military as a volunteer. I would like to hear his opinion about the USS Liberty attack!

  5. chris berel says:

I would assume his opinion would be the same as reveal in ten separate official investigations.

    A terrible error, much regreted.

But (How many times will I be able to make this offer?), if you'd like to borrow my copy of the Protocols to learn exactly how powerless you are, feel free to ask.

  6. Actually, PRNewswire is pretty careful about what they'll distribute, since it instantly appears on hundreds of affiliate websites—if it was garbage, they wouldn't do it since that would generate pushback from syndication partners.

In this case, the key Justice Department documents supporting the allegations are all online:

When do you think the NYT will start substantiating *its* claims with primary research links online?

  7. Carol O says:

Who needs the Protocols when we've had the AIPAC official telling us how many goy congress people he could get anytime, written out on the back of a napkin? When we have the suffocated Franklin APAIC spy case, the list of zionists in most influential positions during the BushCo era? The names of Hillary's latest picks, and Obama's, starting with his gate keeper? Not to mention the fact that no matter
how much the two American political parties disagree, they ALWAYS
are in lockstep with Israel, no matter what it does. And not to mention the USS Liberty, nor the fact that Homeland Security funds
go mostly to jewish communities, not to mention annual welfare dole to Israel while the USA economy is sinking… and so on.

Just look at the unfabricated facts, it tells more than Protocols.

Hitler never chewed carpets, never painted walls, just as WW1 Germans never ate babies because they were "Huns."

And Paul Newman was never interested in comprehensive human justice.

  8. Colin Murray says:

"You would be happy that JEWISH IDENTITY becomes a political issue Phil?"

Richard, it is not a 'political' issue. It is a security issue. Political operatives associated with or employed by foreign powers should not be granted clearance to work in national security positions in the United States government. If you think that Zionists should be an exception, please explain why.

  9. Glenn Condell says:

    'A terrible error, much regreted.'

This from the bloke that picks nits in other people's spelling.

Appointing Ross to Iran would be like, I dunno, appointing Whitman to the environment, Greenspan to the Fed, Chris Cox to the SEC, Stickler to Mine Safety, Baroody to Consumer Product Safety, Kerouack at Family Planning, Paulson and Snow (and Rubin before them and Geithner aferwards) at Treasury, Safavian at Procurement, Tomlinson at CPB, Gottlieb at FDA, and perhaps most hilariously, Pipes at the US Institute of Peace.

So let's be fair – foxes in henhouses are a well established US tradition, and though the GOP is better at this, the Dems are no slouches. But the Israel henhouse isn't limited to one particular domain, and the foxes stand guard in crucial turrets across a number of portfolios, especially in foreign policy with any relationship to the Middle East, but more worryingly to me, in places like Homeland Security, where Chertoff managed to whisk the hi-fiving Mossad operatives who had 911 foreknowledge away (with Alan Dershowitz's quiet assistance) before any storm clouds could gather.

They must have a high-ranking fox somewhere in Justice too; either that or some useful rabbits.

  10. chris berel says:

Glenn, darling, please point out where I desparged another's spelling. I am the first to acknowledge that my spelling is not amongst the best. Even in college, with no word processor, I could care less and accepted the deductions.

However, your conspiracy theory nonsense is overboard. I suggest you reread the Protocols and get grounded.

From the USS Liberty web site:

A FAIR PROBE WOULD ATTACK LIBERTY MISINFORMATION

    by Admiral Thomas H. Moorer

To add insult to injury, Congress, to this day, has failed to hold formal hearings on Israel's attack on this American ship. No official investigation of the attack has ever permitted the testimony of the surviving crew members.

A 1967 investigation by the Navy, upon which all other reports are based, has now been fully discredited as a cover-up by its senior attorney. Capt. Ward Boston, in a sworn affidavit, recently revealed that the court was ordered by the White House to cover up the incident and find that Israel's attack was "a case of mistaken identity."
