Cheney: if you’re ‘pro-Palestinian’ you can’t cut it in the ‘major leagues’

From Seymour Hersh's report in this week's New Yorker: that Obama put pressure on Israel to end Gaza assault.

When former Vice President Dick Cheney learned that Obama had been putting pressure on the Israelis, he angrily disparaged him as "pro-Palestinian" and described him as someone who would "never make it in the major leagues."

Astute. Oh yes, I know: Cheney was bought by the oil lobby.

SOG, Munich and Chamberlain – the most overworked historical analogy in contemporary political debate. The analogy only makes any sense if you believe in the clash of civilisations and in Israel as a bulwark of Western civilisation. Particularly the latter bit requires an almost limitless 'suspension of disbelief'.

  2. Richard says:

So Cheney was CEO of Halliburton, that little oil-mechanics company that happened to get out of its asbestos problems and make a mint in Iraq. S
    Strange, that.

'Israel as a bulwark of Western civilation'? Go there, and see a shitty little Levantine country, where you can find felafel and houmus, but no gefiñte fish.

Jews of character condemn what israel has done to the Palestinians–and rightly so.

But it is high time Jews condemn what Israel has done to the Jews.

Oh yes…they are protecting us! (by generating worldwide revulsion at Jewish atrocities)

Oh yes…they are courageously fighting anti-Semitism–by generating more of it and welcoming career anti-Semites and apologists for Mussolini (like Silvio Berlusconi) with open arms! (The ADL gave the same rabid anti-Semite their "Statesman of the Year" award! )

The Israelis spit on Jewish culture. They regard jews of the diaspora–the ones who MADE Jewish culture, as second rate Jews. They reject yiddish culture and wallow in their hebrew studies and their militarism–the be all an end all of their miserable failed state.

    Not quite.

The Oil companies were lobbying to reduce sanctions, not invade.
Cheney thought it would be a quagmire. Cheney thought sanctions were bad and was privately doing business with Iraq(just like the other oil guys were doing before AIPAC shut it down). Cheney got on board with the neocons after September 11. Of course, you have other oil guys like James Baker who didn't like the invasion either.

    Neocons, not oil guys

We missed ya. You on furlough from Creedmoor?

When you give your dad a rusty trombone do you use water to wash up our take a few wipes with the Charmin?

Hersh: "the Obama transition team also helped persuade Israel to end the bombing of Gaza and to withdraw its ground troops."

Well, shoot, why doesn't someone tell me these things? The last I heard about Obama and Gaza was that he was maintaining a discrete silence, something which pissed off a lot of people at the time. There was nothing I saw anywhere about any pressure on the Israelis. The media rather suggested that the Israelis had voluntarily wrapped up their invasion so as not to mar Obama's inauguration.

    Sy Hersh:
Still trying to relive the glory days of vietnam. But hasn't had a story in years and in fact wouldn't know the truth if he was one of the young boys who Arafat used to keep around to fuck

  8. MRW. says:

SOG, you're so far out of Hersh's league, you dont have standing to judge. What does truth have to do with young boys kept for pleasure? This analogy is what? Evidence of your facility with the English language? Deplorable. Gobbledegook.

  9. LanceThruster says:

    Go f*ck yourself, Mr. Cheney.

  10. Rowan says:

What "major leagues"? "Major Leagues" of global dollar imperialism? The dollar is already no more than a dead man walking. Cheney knows that. He is just carrying on, waiting for the inevitable, saying the usual mindless things, because that's what he always does.

  11. The Eternal John Yoo says:

@BLG: That was sarcasm on Philip's part. If you read Sniegoski's "The Transparent Cabal" you'll see that Cheney was shilling for Zionist interests even as far back as the first Gulf War.

  12. peters says:

does anyone know why cheney lined up with the zionists? is there any material out there on this?

  13. The Eternal John Yoo says:

There is a very wealthy Jewish family named Cheney in Cheney's home state of Wyoming that is Jewish. They even pronounce their name the same way.

It is not known if Cheney is descended from the Jewish Cheney family or not. In any event, Cheney – like Winston Churchill whose mother was Jewish, or like Madeline Albright whose father was a komissar – professes to be a Christian and has never acknowledged any Jewish ancestry.

'Hamas endorsed' because he might, just might, look at the conflict from a neutral perspective. As for your Neville Chamberlain analogy, give me a break – He's not asking Iran not to invade country 2 if he lets them invade country 1; he's telling them to not make a nuclear bomb in return for proper dialogue between the two countries. Please educate yourself of European inter-war history before posting such ridiculous comments.

Actually they don't fuck their multiple child-brides, they wait until they reach puberty (if you're going to talk shit about someone else's culture, at least do it right). As for cleaning up their shit, they use water and tissue paper, which seems slightly more hygienic than just wiping it off with tissue paper (Plus, Mediterranean Europeans do the same thing)

    S0G 10:29pm

Boy, you are on a roll today. I really don't see the connection between R's comment about what Israel has done to Jews, and giving blow-jobs to Arabs. In future, can you please keep your fantasies to yourself.

What the hell are you on about?

  16. Richard Witty says:

    Cheney WAS the oil lobby.

  17. Sand says:

I must admit I never really understood why Cheney and Halliburton seemed to part ways when Cheney was VP.

I remember reading this piece in the WPost and scratching my head.

Does anymore have an update… is Halliburton still there — or did Ahmadinejad end up chucking them out?
