Forget about Iran! Lieberman adopts Obama’s Af-Pak priorities

Lieberman Avigdor Lieberman has given his first major interview since becoming Israeli foreign minister. The interview was with a Russian daily paper, and Ha'aretz is reporting that Lieberman boasted about the intimate nature of the US/Israel relationship. Lieberman reportedly said, "believe me, America accepts all our decisions," and Ha'aretz added that he also said "the Obama Administration will put forth new peace initiatives only if Israel wants it to." This seems like a bit of a touchy subject over here in the US as the Israel lobby has become a bit of a story in the last few days, but who am I to say.

More surprisingly, Lieberman outlined Israel's greatest current strategic threats– and Iran wasn't the leading contender. While Israeli politicians have been comparing Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad to Adolf Hitler in the wake of his Geneva speech, Lieberman says that Afghanistan and Pakistan are Israel's greatest threat. Wow. Ha'aretz comments, "This comes after years of Lieberman warning about
the growing Iranian threat. Now, he has dropped Tehran to number two,
with Iraq coming third."

One initial thought. Lieberman might be sensing that Israel's strategic worth to the US is shifting and it is important that they get on board with President Obama's foreign policy priorities. Not a bad idea from his perspective, even it means ditching Israel's current existential threat. It will be interesting to see how this plays out and if it affects the discussion here in the US.

Just goes to show how arbitrary Israel's designated enemy de jour can be. Hard to believe the genius' running our country believe the sun rises and sets in Israel, and will go to war with whomever it happens to designate on any given day like a dumb, faithful dog. What's happened to America that it's completely lost its own sense of itself? I guess subversive fifth columns are like dry rot, hollowing from the inside out, leaving only a shell of the former structure.

Lieberman is just slapping his dick around on the Russian table. Both he and Meir Dagan (head of Mossad) despise* the USA., and they love Russia. Dagan comes from Russia; Lieberman from Moldova.

But it is vitally important to Lieberman to be seen having one up on the USA: it makes him master of the universe. To snap in his fingers and have the USA jump-to means he's more powerful than Obama. And make no mistake: he is only repeating to the Russians what the Israelis say about themselves vis-a-vis the USA behind closed doors.

*reported in a European foreign policy paper in 2005.

In the interview mentioned, Lieberman is taken out of context about American's accepting anything Israel proposes. For your purposes, he said no such thing.

As for his strategy – he is adamant about accepting the Saudi Road Map.

So there you have it. After all that demonisation.

    My, my MRW, how eloquent.

"…reported in a European foreign policy paper in 2005…"

Wel, then it must be true! Of course Meir Dagan arrived in Israel at the age of five from the Soviet Union. I don't know how you translate that into coming from Russia. He was likely a DP from Poland.

Ever thought of the possibility that if you want to keep up the myth of Israeli power in the US you better shift in their direction? Chris, dear?

Interesting. How did he mean it then? Lots of things do get garbled in translation for sure.

  7. Pakistan is an issue to the Zionist Virtual Colonial Motherland and the State of Israel because of all Muslim groups, Pakistanis have the most likelihood of creating a transnational political system capable of interfering with Zionist command and control in the USA and the UK.

Turning Pakistan into a failed state and incinerating it will American and British Pakistanis distracted from the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

  8. Shafiq says:

Isn't Pakistan the only Muslim state with nuclear weapons?

  9. 5 dancing shlomos says:

obama is adopting israel's pak plan. break it, destabilize it, destroy it. israel fears pakistan and iran.

Dearest LeaNder: "the myth of Israeli power in the US"

Now there's an incantation that only a brainwashed, Judeophile left-liberal would profess to believe, and pass along to starry-eyed fellow cultists.

LeaNder isn’t a Christian Zionist, no, no. She’s much to smart for that. She’s a Judeophile left-liberal. And the extent of the difference is the distance between a Marxist and a Leninist.

  11. Eva Smagacz says:

I do not believe in "plan" to destabilise Pakistan. Who would benefit from Taliban-like political fractions getting control of nuclear weapons? This would destabilise India, for one thing, and would give those fractions absolute veto over oil in the region, which would weaken Europe and strengthen Russia.

  12. Ed says:

Every time I see this picture of Lieberman, I can't help but think he's lamenting the size of his own unit, and that of the average Israeli.

  13. Chris Berel says:

He is merely demonstrating your size as described by some whore who reports to us. You are rather tiny.

  14. Ed says:

Who is Lieberman demonstrating my size to, and why are you Zionists obsessed with my unit? One would think you had better things to do. (But that presupposes that you're normal, instead of, er…light in the combat boots.)
