The AP from Jerusalem: two versions of the official Netanyahu cabinet photo were released. One is photoshopped to remove the two women in the cabinet, to placate the Orthodox objections to photographing women.

I really dislike the idea of Photoshopping news photos to represent something that never actually happened. If they had simply posed for photographs twice, once without the women, it would at least be an honest depiction of a real event, whatever one might say for or against the idea of taking an extra "no women" shot for the Orthodox press. As it is, they're just lying to their readers by pretending that no women were in the shot. That their readers evidently prefer to be lied to says something sad about their culture — not that Americans are any better in their own way.

I wonder what is the Orthodox position on homosexuality? They insist on gender segregated buses, no female flesh in their parts of town (photos or human), arranged marriages and very limited schooling for girls.

  3. Rowan says:

Their position is, when rabbis are reputed to be serial pedophiles, to hush it up.

  4. Citizen says:

They do a better job of that the Catholic Church–although I did see one Rabbi caught on that tv show exposing cyber predators who come to the setup home of an actress playing a teenie.
