The comment threading is helpful. It actually saves time too. As it often was difficult to remember were you responded and as a polite person should respond to an answer too. That really demands far to much time or extra strategies.
The editing and deleting option for a specific time is good. Although concerning my typos, errors and missing words it probably should remain there forever. I belong to the people that immediately spot others errors but seem to be blind to or correcting my own while reading. That's what too much proofreading does to you.

Also good you don't have to type in the code anymore before posting, at least it seemed, even if you aren't locked into TypePad.
What I didn't like was the size of the preview box and the limited html tags that can be used. Strictly its an advantage that all hyperlinks are converted into clickable links. But sadly it comes at the expense of embedded links that now don't work anymore.
What gets on my nerves lately is that "intelligent" software often translates machine generated text according to the location of the reader. Thus the header telling who responds to whom in a comment thread is suddenly in German for me. I really hate that. But it disappears the moment I lock into TypePad. I think they should change this feature so the origin and language of the blog is used and not the location of the reader. If I read e.g. a French blog what sense does it make that the technically produced headers are in German. This results in a confusing mix.
Thanks for the reality check, Phil. I signed up for Intense Debate. I prefer not to create caches of data about my internet usage; will have to consider that further, while exploring Intense Debate. Jewbonics uses it, also, I know. What is your goal in using Intense Debate? I consider your posts and comments sections one of the best of current arenas for debate about US foreign policy. I feel honored by and grateful for the opportunity to participate. (Scheduling on my end is still screwed up, but the situation is improving.)
And for debate about more than that, of course.
KabobFest installed it recently on their blog and it looks good at the moment. Still trying to figure out some of the stuff though.

We just thought that have a comments section with more tools (threaded conversations, the thumbs up/down thing) could help the discussion. We'll see how it goes. We want to make the comments section as useful (and spam free) as possible.
I like it! It's a vast improvement over the first blog comment change IMHO.
At the moment I can view older comments by pressing the stop button at the right moment during load. So all that needs to be done is to add a note at the top telling people to click at the right moment. You could even have it done automatically by adding some kind of plugin!
I like it, but when I click on any of your Mondo Highlights posts, the comments are lost. Unless we're going through a gradual process here of restructuring them.

I don't like the new interface. Its confusing. Who knows what the up/down thumbs mean, what is "intensedebate"? Why would it require a login? And, what is openid?

You don't need to login, but it's easier if you do. It does work with OpenID and the thumps up/down is for other users to 'grade' your comment
