Lately we’ve been posting a bunch on the growing boycott, divestment and sanctions movement, as well as on Israel’s tensions with Turkey. Well, here’s a story where they meet up. The Jerusalem Post reports, "exports between the two countries dropped 40 percent in the first nine months of the year." If you count backwards that means the drop started right after the war in Gaza – and this exchange.
Wonder if Peres has any regrets?

As long as Turkey is under the control of Kemalist Army – Tel Aviv will always have ‘powerful friends’ in Ankara. They’re the first Muslim country to recognize Israel. Turkey havs military cooperation, defense treaty and most of Turkish Air Force jets are overhauled in Israel. Turkish Generals (many Crypto-Jews) have close links with Israel Lobby and ADL. A few years ago, Abe Foxman, played the key role to kill the Congress bill on Armenien genocide by Turks in the 1910s.
However, some ‘political incorrect statements’ made by Turkey’s so-called “Islamist” government, especially PM Recep Tayyip Erdogan has irked the Zionazis. It began with Erdogan’s crossing lines with Peres at Davos. Then after attending the G20 moot, he made another ‘political wrong statement’: “We are completely against nuclear weapons in the Middle East. There is a country in the Middle East that possesses nuclear weapon: Israel. There is a difference, though; Israel is not a member of the IAEA, while Iran is. Moreover, phosphorus bombs were used in Gaza. What is this? A weapon of mass destruction.”
Islamic Iran has become the second largest trade partner of Turkey after the US. In 2010 it’s expected to hit US$10 billion.
Now, how paranoid Zionist s could take such develoments sitting down!!
Erdogan does it again!

Turkey takes a stand, the new David against Goliath; the particular contellation
in the UN now affords the lifetime opportunity for the UN to address the Goldstone Report despite the US veto:

It is interesting to read the comments in Israeli press about the Turkish “development”. Israelis seem to believe that Turkey’s new attitude exists simply because a “religious” party has the power. They do not seem to understand that what Turkey is doing are done because Turkey is the major power in the region, not Israel, and now it has decided to show its real weight. The chaos Israel is deliberately creating in the region hurts Turkish economical and security interests.
Israelis seem not to understand if Europe and USA are forced to choose between Turkey and Israel the result is Turkey. Without Turkey on board EU can forget the vital energy links from Middle East. EU and USA simply can not afford Turkey to “glide” closer to Russia and China. Israelis seem honestly to believe that Israel is important in economical and military sense to Europe. But it is rather difficult to understand on what that belief is founded.
Good point SimoHurtta. Ever since Israel’s last fiasco in Lebanon, Turkey has been confidently taking a stand in the international arena, against some of Israel’s more outrageous actions. This is hugely important, and cannot be made to go away simply by “rebranding” Israel as a fun place filled with gorgeous girls and macho guys. I’m sure they are aware of this in Jerusalem, yet I see no attempt at damage control. The most obvious thing would be to throw Obama a bone and get him to lean on Ankara, but Netanyahu has been doing his very best to alienate and humiliate the White House. So what we’re left with is a truly mad dog Israeli government, with a firm belief in sledge-hammer diplomacy – counting on the fact that the WH and Congress will just keep saying (like the Marquis de Sod‘s blades of grass in Pynchon’s Vineland): “More! More! We love eet!”
Gee, I finally met somebody who has read Vineland.
Some 18 very odd years ago. I remember only 2 things: the “Marquis de Sod”, and the fact that it was a good read.
I started on Gravity’s Rainbow once but didn’t get far. It’s lying there waiting.
Did Turkey grant Israel overflight clearance for any attacks on Iran before? Because in current circumstances that seems unlikely.
The latest episode in Israel’s problem with Turkey is Turkish TV show “Ayrilika (Farewell), who shows Israeli soldiers as sadist baby killers.
Ayrilik (Farewell) Israel
