I mean it’s not like anyone cannot look up US federal legislative law history (The West Publishing books holding it usually appear as backdrop when anyone wants to appear as a legal sage ov tv). Center for Immigration Studies is a pretty mainstream group–I was on the board for several years. You can play Jamie Kirchik style gotcha games, but Tanton is not involved with CIS. We can disagree about the right level of immigration, and I think any sane person would find it has both costs and benefits. I’m not crazy about CIS’s Steinlight outreach– but immigration reformers do try to reach out beyond their core.
Yes, Tanton “has been” involved in CIS. . . in the 1980′s. I find the whole nativist phenomenon less alarming than the SPLC does, but I do know these groups and the key people involved. Some representative names: Eugene McCarthy, Richard Lamb. . . .

But at the cultural core of these groups are moderately conservative, conservation oriented WASPS– of the sort who tend to somewhat skeptical of neoconservatism. The representative names, including Walter Cronkite, bailed when they figured out what John Tanton was about. His major disciple now is Frosty Wooldridge, who spouts Tanton’s wishes for the nation: reduction of the population by half, zero population growth, zero immigration. You last posted this silly Horwitz op-ed in January, so I’ll repost my response:
This is not a debate I think is productive to bring to Philip’s blog, but since it has come up I’ll tell you what I think.
Horowitz’s editorial is typical pro-immigration propaganda, which for one interested in the issue, is as tendentious as the Zionist propaganda that is dissected on this blog. Horowitz’s main goal seems to be to smear anyone who believes immigration laws should reflect the interest of the nation, and be enforced, with the mortal sin of “racism.”
I’m certainly familiar with the Louisiana Purchase and the history of Spanish Colonization. It’s amusing that Horowitz blames Northern Europeans for this so-called black legend, considering that the most brutal description of Spanish atrocities in the New World came from the Spanish themselves, in particular, Bartolome de las Casas’ *Short Account of the Destruction of the Indies*. The Spanish Empire was in severe decline during the period of US expansion, and describing it as authoritarian and plagued by corruption would hardly be outrageous.
The US ideal of civic spirit and self rule by an industrious, self-disciplined, and educated public was formed by English speaking Western European ethnicities and Protestant ethics and traditions.
Since then, many immigrants have been fortunate to come to this country, and until recently, it was expected that they would conform to this ideal. Certainly this is what the most recent immigrants on my family tree did.
My own experience in the southwest, is that uncontrolled immigration has impaired assimilation, and brought Mexican-style corruption and an acceptance of the idea that the point of seeking public office is to reward one’s friends.
More cynically, I suspect that elites such as Horowitz find unrestricted immigration and the denigration of English as a common language appealing because it much easier for an elite to manipulate a public divided by ethnicity, culture, and language. I’ll also point out that our politicians successfully court ethnic votes with the promise of entitlements such as affirmative-action or minority set-asides, or by offering a candidate of similar race. Whites, in fact, are the only major ethnic group who do not vote along predictable racial lines.
Robert Menendez, our Hispanic senator here in NJ, is completely in the hands of Zionists. Every correspondence I’ve ever sent him has been responded to with an AIPAC form letter.

Where I am, Martinez was also a total hasbara agent–all his form letters to my questions and demands could have been written by any hasbara agent. My other senator is totally in the hands of Big Insurance and Israel; my house rep, though he’s good on many issues, totally tows the hasbara line and of course voted to pass the recent resolution muzzling Goldstone. One time I got one his lackeys on the phone about the USS Liberty incident–she totally held the hasbara line on a very seminal incident marking exactly when and by whom Uncle Sam became the slave of Israel.
Ultimately Steinlight’s articles are unconvincing. He seems to be saying that Jews have it pretty good today in the US and they should therefore use their power to maintain today’s ethnic balance. The problem is that compared with other groups, Jews had it pretty good in the 1950′s or even the 1920′s. And I’m sure there were Steinlights at the time urging caution. But, as Kevin MacDonald shows, it’s generally the most extreme, anti-gentile leaders who end up holding sway over Jewish communities and attracting Jewish resources. Compare Foxman’s ADL with any groups Steinlight is now associated with.

The study was in the news recently, and they listed the questions used. Most were good, some I found questionable. The one that I remember particularly was about (I think) whether Jews wielded “disproportionate power” or “disproportionate political power”. I think having disproportionate power is in the nature of any especially wealthy group, and aren’t Jews objectively wealthier than Americans in general? I would certainly say that Whites, due in large part to their wealth, hold disproportionate power in the United States. That does not suggest a hatred, or even any dislike of Whites or Jews.
Is it anti-Semitic to acknowledge statistical data, then, one has to wonder? Fifteen Senators are Jewish, hailing from less than 3% of the American population. Meanwhile, African Americans are almost 15% of the population. They have one Senator. I think we can all reach our own conclusions there, even if some of us are afraid to talk about it.
Yeah, I wonder if I would be considered anti-semitic (and a self-hating White) by the criteria of that study.
