Unending myth of two-state solution has helped to destroy two-state-solution

Isn’t it time that the “two-state solution” be regarded as an object of the imagination no more real than the Tibetan kingdom of Shambala?

At the heart of this Middle Eastern fable is another Shangri-La: Jerusalem, capital of the Jewish state and a Palestinian state.

In reality, Jews in an unremitting march of expansion are taking over the whole city, making sure that East Jerusalem will never become a Palestinian capital.

As this report reveals:

Some 50,000 new housing units in Jerusalem neighborhoods beyond the Green Line are in various stages of planning and approval, planning officials told Haaretz. They said Jerusalem’s construction plans for the next few years, even decades, are expected to focus on East Jerusalem.

Most of the housing units will be built in predominantly Jewish neighborhoods beyond the Green Line, while a smaller number of them will be built in Arab neighborhoods. The plans for some 20,000 of the apartments are already in advanced stages of approval and implementation, while plans for the remainder have yet to be submitted to the planning committees.

When the Netanyahu government resisted pressure from the Obama administration to impose a settlement freeze, it also made it clear that it regards Jerusalem as indivisible and outside the scope of any agreement on settlements.

As for the “unprecedented” concessions that Secretary Clinton applauded in late October, this is the outcome:

Three and a half months in, the settlement freeze is turning out to be more of a slowing down.

With all the exceptions being made, its effect is limited and it appears to be mainly a demonstration of Israel’s willingness to offer concessions to expedite the renewal of negotiations. The total disappearance of the settlers’ protests against the freeze, which they originally described as a disaster, testifies to the actual state of things.

Meanwhile, Jewish extremists occupying Palestinian homes in Sheikh Jarrah in East Jerusalem have gained attention most recently as they sing the praise of the settler and mass murderer Baruch Goldstein.

Andrew Sullivan sees “massive Israeli demonstrations” as a sign that the Goldstein supporters are a small minority. Their behavior certainly makes them an easy target for criticism but in a way they seem to serve more as a distraction than to highlight the problem.

The plans to expand the Jewish population in East Jerusalem are unlikely to mean that the putative Palestinian capital will be populated with Goldstein supporters. On the contrary, most of these Israelis are likely to move into East Jerusalem for economic rather than ideological reasons, confident that the neighborhoods in which they live will remain under the authority of the Israeli government.

Even if the majority of Israelis actually thought that the creation of a Palestinian state would be a positive development, all the evidence suggests that most Israelis simply don’t believe that such a state is ever going to exist. Israel has invested too deeply in its claim to Palestinian territory to ever let go. Indeed, the perpetuation of the two-state myth has actually served to make a two-state solution impossible.

The impasse in the peace process is not a failure to implement a two-state solution; it is a failure to confront the realities which must be grappled with once such a proposition is abandoned.

This is a cross-post from Woodward’s site, War in Context.

To paraphrase Winston Churchill, we’ve already established that Obama is a sucker, the only question is how big of a sucker he’ll turn out to be.

BYahoo just keeps raising the bar, like he’s trying to see if there’s any point where Obama wouldl actually do something to stop him.

    • potsherd says:

More Israeli provocations – they’re going to let right wing Israelis march through E Jerusalem.

    • zamaaz says:

This destruction of the two-state solution is a myth either…because to build a Jewish nation there is no other alternative but to have a distinct Jewish State. Debates can go around -the- bush infinitely, but it will finally come to the point to either build one Jewish nation or dissolve Israel as a State by virtue of the Balfour Declaration which the state of Israel was indeed founded! (Oh this moronic repetitive arguments…) The Arabs have no other rebuttal except to appeal to human rights…sadly human rights build opposite to legal basis are not rights at all -but insolence and anarchy!.. Now if you dont agree to international law, then you declare war against the community of nations…

      • zamaaz says:

If you are a muslim, then try to go to Saudi and go against their Islamic laws…and tomorrow you’ll see your head rolling on the ground…

        • If you are in Israel, try going against the laws of militarily enforced Israeli apartheid and you’ll find your body disintegrated, burnt to a crisp, run over by a military bulldozer, or shot while fleeing an IDF incursion by the most destructive weapons of the 21st century all paid for with American tax dollars.

In any case wtf does Saudi Arabia have to do with what we are talking about?

        • zamaaz says:

So why only question morally the Israelis? when painful justice is realistic and applicable in both worlds… because law is law…and that the fact there is no ‘human rights’ during the application of the law…

      • Chaos4700 says:

because to build a Jewish nation there is no other alternative but to have a distinct Jewish State.

I seem to recall someone else having similar ideas about building a state around a nationality that didn’t exist more than a few decades before he came around.

      • zamaaz says:

Everyone should now that the Balfour Declarations has two stipulations (1) To establish a Jewish nation, and (2) uphold the rights of the non-Jewish citizens
Here comes the three major wars of attrition: (for some basic arguments only)
        1) Suez War – will Israel abrogate or can the Palestinians claim their stipulated (2) rights? YES because there could be a valid argument that it is not the Palestinians that attacked the State of Israel but the foreign Arabs;
        2) 1967 War – will Israel abrogate or can the Palestinians claim their stipulated (2) rights? YES because there could be a valid argument that it is not the Palestinians that attacked the State of Israel but the foreign Arabs;
        3) 1973 War – will Israel abrogate or can the Palestinians claim their stipulated (2) rights? YES because there could be a valid argument that it is not the Palestinians that attacked the State of Israel but the foreign Arabs;
        4) Gaza War – will Israel abrogate or can the Palestinians claim their stipulated (2) rights? NO because there could be a NO valid argument that it is not the Palestinians that attacked the State of Israel but the foreign Arabs. It was clear that it was the Palestinians themselves through Hamas that declared war through the use of rocket attacks…Thanks to the brave bright guys of Hamas!
Now the Palestinians have clearly waived their stipulated (2) rights in Balfour Declaration…

        • What kind of drug do you use before you decide to spam Mondoweiss with this garbage?

        • Chaos4700 says:

Kind of like how Polish Jews waived their rights in Warsaw, zamaaz?

        • zamaaz says:

Had not the Hamas used rockets in their open acts of violence against the state of Israel…they can use arguments and appeals for their benefit based on morality, rights, and humanity through international pressure…which finally the Israelis will be forced to succumb, but because of these open acts of war by the Hamas, the community of nations were left no other options but hands-off… What a ‘wisdom’…

        • zamaaz says:

Now with this open declaration and global campaign of ‘irrational’ anger and hatred against the Jews it is impossible even among the international community to blend positively both human rights (of Palestinians) and the right of a state (of Israel) to exist….Thanks to every one (even here in this pages) who enjoy endless spewing of hatred against the Israelis…you have been hardening more the stance of the zionists Israel to relentlessly pursue the two state solution…

        • zamaaz says:

Even the statesmen of US cannot force the humanity issue to Israel because they all know, they have NO LEGAL BASIS… If they (the US) do lead in doing this, the whole world will follow into chaos…lawlessness and disorder among, and between conflicting races, cultures, and nations….

        • zamaaz says:

I dont use drugs…perhaps your ‘wisdom’ is my ‘foolishness’… it all depends which works…you see? the Israelis kept on expanding while here on the pages you spew hateful arguments against them? Now which is reality?

  2. aparisian says:

I remind you guys that Biden stressed that the United States had “no better friend than Israel”. Maybe USA is playing the nonsense two states play as complicit of the ethnic cleansing of Palestinians?

    WHEN WILL THAT STOP?!

  3. Kevin MacDonald: Israel again illustrates the true nature of Judaism

Ultimately the behavior of Israel will also affect perceptions of Jews in the US and other Western countries. How long can the various positive narratives about Jews that have been so common in the West, especially since World War II, survive? The narratives of Jews as passive victims suffering at the hands of brutal and irrational enemies throughout history, of Judaism as representing a unique moral vision for all of humanity, of Judaism as a light unto the nations. People are increasingly realizing that there is a complete disconnect between these images and the actual behavior of Jews when they have power. The image of Israelis carrying out ethnic cleansing will be seen as far more congruent with the image of Jewish Bolsheviks engaged in political oppression and mass murder than with the self-images that Jews have managed establish for themselves throughout the West.

So the good news from all of this is that Israel is gradually revealing itself for what it really is — a very telling commentary on the real nature of Jews and Judaism that is supported to the hilt by the organized Jewish community throughout the Diaspora. The sooner people get that message, the sooner there will be real change away from the transformational public policy changes that have been so successfully advocated by Jewish activist organizations in the last 50 years in the West. All of these changes relied on a moral vision — the moral imperative of mass immigration, the moral superiority of multiculturalism, and especially the moral illegitimacy of White identity and interests. The Jewish community has been the most powerful voice preaching this vision, but it has no moral standing at all. Truly, the emperor truly has no clothes.

    • Chaos4700 says:

      Ugh. Seriously. Ugh.

But as vile and nasty as this commentary is, putting it on display does bring up a good point. I don’t believe Israel represents Judaism worldwide. However, Israel is trying to steal and monopolize ownership of the Jewish identity.

If the majority of Jews let Israel do this, the perceptions described in the article above will become increasingly commonplace. Much to all of our mutual dismay, Jew and non-Jew alike.

      • MHughes976 says:

        And more ugh.
The idea of ‘white identity and interests’ produces the same focus on race rather than individual as does the Zionist interpretation of Judaism and is misleading to the same degree.
We shouldn’t be concerned for the rights of the Palestinians because of how they Palestinians and Jews relate on a racial basis but because all are human beings.
There are interpretations of Judaism other than the Zionist one, I am sure.
However, I can’t deny that Goldstein’s having any vociferous admirers can only cause horror.

      • Citizen says:

Aren’t you overlooking the decades long narrative of the US government and MSM, the one that has consistently linked Jews and Israel right or wrong (and hide the wrong)? Doesn’t AIPAC and the organizations under its umbrella do the same thing?
The majority ofJews have allowed this for decades, and the organized Jews have make the narrative a precondktion to holding high US govenment office. What is
the test of virtue? Power. Should MacDonald be jeered at for pointing this out?
OTH, although he addresses one group’s more recent failure, he ignores his group’s
failure which preceeded it. Morality and ethics are beyond ethnicity. If not, then they are just rhetorical tools for birthright politics.

        • Chaos4700 says:

Citizen, it’s all the talk of “true nature of Judaism” and especially the talk of “White identity and interests” that makes me question the legitimacy of MacDonald’s perspective, even if I think some legitimate points can be salvaged from the screed.

And that would also be where I differ from MacDonald as well. While he sees Israel as something foreign to the (perhaps fading) ethnocentric nature of white European culture, I see Israel as an extension of it. The founders of Israel, quite significantly, were European (or in some cases, Russian) Jews. And even in that aspect, they by no means stood for all European / Russian Jews.

Israel was simply a late case of a European faction exploiting colonialism as foothold to secure a power base.

        • Citizen says:

I agree with you Chaos; essentially Israel is an extension of white ethnocentric-cratic
power politics. And both need to be condemned. I think it’s safe to say that white power today carries the connotion of a sin against humanity around the world. This is not true of posturing for Israel right or wrong. Every attempt to point out the wrong has been stymied by the US government and MSM, and by Israel itself. MacDonald does point out this hypocrisy, yes? Doesn’t much of MacDonald’s analysis support the issue posited in the question (debated most by Jews amongst themselves): “Is it good for the Jews?” Surely you see any similar inquiry (Is it good for the whites?) is seen by the whole world as a simple rascist inquiry, one bent on which tactic and strategy to adopt to assure the survival of
the white race and its continuity.

      • zamaaz says:

There can be no judaism worldwide…simply because there is no Jerusalem worldwide…

    • Keith says:

Kevin MacDonald must be read with caution and skepticism. He touches on things which are not normally discussed, therefore, it is difficult to avoid him. Yet, be aware that he is a philo-Semite disguised as an anti-Semite, whose main goal is to restrict immigration into the U.S. of inferior peoples who, he feels, are weakening the Gentile resistance to a Jewish takeover. He is a racial determinist who quotes Israeli geneticists (who else?) to “prove” that Jews are, in fact, a distinct race. In his (warped) view, Gentile whites and Jewish whites are superior “races” locked in combat over control of the U.S.. Jewish support for liberal immigration laws is a Jewish plot to dilute the Gentile gene pool with genetically inferior peoples. Need I say more?

      • Citizen says:

At the present rate of illegal and legal immigration, the US is scheduled be a majority non-white nation from sea to sea by 2050 at the latest; whites are already a minority in many cities and metro areas. That’s just a fact, and supported by the US Census Bureau. And multiculturalism encourages ethnic dilution. Another fact. I’m not against either, just stating facts. It’s also a fact that Israel has what it calls a “demographic problem.” And too, have you noticed the increasing trend in the EU to tighten
immigration laws? So, yes, Keith, you do need to say more. What traditional culture is champing at the bit to see itself phased out? Name one. One irony:
If you study the legislative history of the 1965 US Immigration Act, you will see
Jewish American groups were very much in the forefront, and that their objective
was to dilute white America because they thought that would be the best way to
prevent any neoNazi group from ever gaining power in the USA. They succeeded; now they are actually worried about the lack of guilt of the new USA, including
so many peoples that are not connected in any ethnic or racial way with the SHOAH that happened overseas. If it is true that MacDonald sees the Gentile whites and the Jewish whites as the two top adversarys locked in combat over control of the US or the World, then MacDonald, to that extent, is repeating Hitler’s exact view. And to the extent one sees parallels with Israel’s culture and actions and Hitler’s Germany,
giving consideration for the new context, which is post-Nuremberg, aren’t we stuck in a terrifying situation with our special ally?

  4. Citizen says:

Beiden says there’s no space between Israel and the USA–and the tip of the Israeli spear
is greedy worshippers of the terrorist Goldstein. And to get the shaft is Iran. What does this add up to? A new war as the way out of the impending double dip US Deep Reccssion –let’s not forget WW2 saves us from the Great Depression? War is our business in post Nuremberg USA? Nice.

  5. I take back my earlier reference to the big lie technique. I have to salute Israel for saying precisely what they intend, which is further, steady, irrevocable ethnic cleansing, and confiscation. It is less literary than Hitler’s oeuvre, but no less spelt out, and yet in hindsight the old mass murderer ultimately carried out everything he said he would do in Mein Kampf.

  6. Citizen says:

Yeah, it’s pretty blatent. I mean, how much more in your face could it get?

  7. Keith says:

Zionism effectively precludes either a two-state solution or a 0ne-state solution or a two-state leading to a one-state solution. As long as Zionism exists, there is no solution. Without Zionism, who knows what may transpire?

Why don’t the Palestinians just get on with unilaterally declaring a Palestinian state – are they waiting for a written invitation?

It is the obvious next step, and they should do it yesterday.

Issue a statement, a map, a draft of a constitution and seek foreign recognition. They merely mark up and call the occupied territories of their state “territories occupied for a foreign power”

    Fait accompli

  10. sherbrsi says:

Even if the majority of Israelis actually thought that the creation of a Palestinian state would be a positive development,

It is important to note here, that the advocacy of the creation of a Palestinian state has been, at most, simply a thought.

Gideon Levy, in his writings, correctly observed that much of the Israeli populace lives in indifference to the occupation and settlement, and that while polls would indicate support for the creation of the a Palestinian state, when faced with opposing the actions which would essentially hinder the development of the state (namely the military occupation and the settlement), the Israelis have made it remarkably clear which side they support.
