Washington Post forgets to quote the Israeli government’s line

in this article about Israel considering restricting citizenship for people who convert to Judaism. All the people quoted are critics, two American rabbis. Is that because the Post somehow sides with the outraged in this particular case? (Yes.) A story about Palestinians would never be framed in this way.

Do the ultra orthodox realise how crazy this is? Moreover, do they care?

In other news, I read a super article about Gaza by David Rose in Foreign Policy.
And while I’m mentioning Gaza, the Libyian chartered freighter Amalthea is off the Egyption coast, heading for El Arish (or Gaza). The Greenpeace Rainbow Warrier is also near (but perhaps just monitoring the tuna).

The WaPo article is “liberal Zionist” to the core. It questions whether the government might be going too far in restricting which conversions should be recognized, but not whether it is insane that a Canadian convert to Judaism can acquire rights to exercise domination and control over the indigenous population of Palestine. With a viewpoint like that, who needs the Israeli government position.

At least she didn’t get acid “accidentally spilled” on her…

As a Canadian, I find comfort in knowing that, should I convert to Judaism – and thereby become a scared, “long-term exile” Israelite scarred by the Holocaust and other fear-inducing “generation to generation” stories – I would be able to exercise domination and control over Palestinians in the “Holy Land”, the “Jewish state”.

It’s not that I would want to dominate or control them, but:
    a) they might not hug me if I were to take my boots of their necks; and
    b) as RW has pointed out, Iran is to blame for the settlements anyway.

Oh, and it’s kosher to be Jewish and vegetarian, yes? :-)
