In Haaretz, Zeev Sternhell says (with considerable warrant) that it’s actually worse, because they have the interrogator-demagogue inside the cabinet. He might have added: worse because the “threat” from enemies can be worked more pressingly, since the danger that Israel will disintegrate or in some way fail to survive is manifestly less unreal than the threat of a Communist takeover of the U.S. in 1950.
