Wiesenfeld says his mother would call Kushner a Nazi collaborator

From Jeffrey Goldberg’s interview with Jeffrey Wiesenfeld, who is the child of Holocaust survivors. More evidence of the deep damage to the American Jewish community of the Holocaust, and the crazy projection of Nazis on to Arabs. Maybe this will get the Nakba ball rolling in the mainstream media?

“My mother would call Tony Kushner a kapo,” he said in a telephone conversation earlier this morning. “Kapos” were Jews who worked for the Germans in concentration camps. “If I’m confronted by anti-Semitism in my face, I’m going to call it out.” I asked him if he had any doubt Kushner was an anti-Semite. He said: “Anyone who accuses the Jews of ethnic-cleansing is participating in a blood libel, so yes, he’s a Jewish anti-Semite.”

    Dear Mr. Wiesenfeld,

Is it the word “ethnic cleansing” (when applied to Israeli acts in 1948) that you object to, or do you actually deny that (Palestinian Jews / Israelis) expelled about 750,000 (or 85%) of the Palestinian Arabs from what became Israel in 1948?

Even if you think 750,000 people walked away voluntarily (as many might in a time of war and scarcity) from their homes (many of them taking their keys and title deeds with them), do you deny that Israel prevented their return (and does so still today)? And how do you justify that refusal, particularly in light of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights saying that everyone has a right to return to his own country and the UNGA’s resolutions calling on Israel to allow the return of peaceable Palestinian refugees?

If you admit that the acts were done, do you justify the Israelis’ acts of expulsion and therefore find that a criminal-tinged name of those acts (“ethnic cleansing”) objectionable? If so, what word would you use?

  2. Wow, this guy is damaged. I find it abhorrent that he can even think of so casually libelling somebody who clearly cares a great deal about the situation in Israel/Palestine. “Blood libel’? this is utter bs. He is grandstanding on a monstrous scale, parading his manufactured sense of martyrdom in order to destroy someone else’s reputation, someone who has done him no harm whatsoever. What would this sick individual say about someone who was genuinely anti-semitic? It is an utter disgrace to exploit the Holocaust in this way, for petty political reasons, and in order to silence dissent and issues which urgently need to be debated.
These people are twisted and need to be challenged and ridiculed. I hope Tony K takes him to court and sues him for damages.

I think it’s appropriate to go after Wiesenfeld, but why would you bring in his mother? She’s what, in her 80s?

Just because he’s behaving badly doesn’t mean you should.

This is officially the least classy post of the week.

    Shabbat shalom.

    • What are you talking about? It was the desperate idiot Weisenfeld who involved his mother. Go complain to him.

    • GF – Not sure if you’re trying to change the focus/deflect or what, but a careful re-reading of the post will reveal that it was this guy Weisenfeld who brought up his mother.

Please correct me if I’m wrong.

    • GF – Mr. Wiesenfeld brings up his mom because this blog made him do it in its “least classy post of the week”? Cue Twilight Zone theme….

So, the next time Sarah Palin mentions her kids in one of her speeches (she always does) the transcriber is supposed to excise those portions so as not to be “bringing in her kids”?

    • Chaos4700 says:

That’s rich. Wiesenfeld uses his own mother as a rhetorical human shield and you sidle right up alongside to snipe at us over her head yourself.

I guess we can’t expect better from a hardcore Zionist. It is rather like the IDF tactic of making Palestinian children walk in front of their soldiers, and then people like you and your government cranking out propaganda like, “They don’t love their children! See how they involve their own children in their war against us?”

You are a disgusting opportunist, GF, and watching you dance on people’s graves to score cheap political capital, metaphorical or otherwise, is hideous to watch.

“Anyone who accuses the Jews of ethnic-cleansing is participating in a blood libel, so yes, he’s a Jewish anti-Semite.”

This is probably the most succinct statement ever of the ‘Holocaust free pass,’ a form of ethical impunity once believed to be established in perpetuity.

Obviously Wiesenfeld didn’t get the memo that it expired on 27 December 2008.

    • clenchner says:

What might be missed is how out of touch W is with Israeli current thought. Simply put, there aren’t any sectors of Israeli society that don’t know that Israel engaged in ‘transfer.’ The work of political parties like Moledet, combined with groups like Zochrot and some opening up of the high school history curriculum during the Oslo years have combined in such a way, that Israelis are more likely to express pride than denial.

It’s mostly in the US that this perverse kind of denial takes place.

      • Sand says:

        Denial and cover-up.

“…colleague Laura Flanders reports, Wiesenfeld is a trustee at the pro-Israel think tank the Washington Institute for Near East Policy, and an organizer of the Salute to Israel Day Parade Committee but his views are not considered controversial or problematic…”

Wiesenfeld is well-connected in the political world.

        • Shingo says:

Wiesenfeld is a trustee at the pro-Israel think tank the Washington Institute for Near East Policy,

Another lunatic connected to Dennis Ross. What a surprise!

      • tree says:

….that Israelis are more likely to express pride than denial.

Which is just as perverse, albeit different. That kind of perversion, that takes pride in ethnic cleansing, wouldn’t be well accepted here, which is why there must be denial instead.

      • Chaos4700 says:

You know, at least there were German citizens under the Nazi regime who truly didn’t know (or couldn’t believe) what their government was doing.

        • Chaos, you raise a good point. That is why I have long said that Zionism has the potential, in the bye and bye, to be more disastrous for the Jews and Jewish culture than Nazism has proved to be for the Germans and their culture.

Most Germans were not Nazis. Their nation recovered – but still it took a ghastly war to set them and the world free of their nation’s abominable, homegrown ideology. Quo vadis, Israel?

  5. Jan says:

I wish I knew how to contact Jeffrey Wiesenfeld so I could tell him how my now deceased American born relative was an ethnic cleanser of the Palestinians in 1948. When he went to Palestine in 1947 he joined the Palmach and participated in the cleansing of many of the villages of what is now northern Israel. Several years later he described how the hapless soon to be refugees were driven at gunpoint from their homes across the border into Lebanon. They were not even given time to put on their shoes that had been left by their front door.
When I asked my relative why the Jews drove out the Arabs (the words “ethnic cleansing” were not used in those days) his reply was: “We wanted the land and we didn’t want them on it.”
If Wiesenfeld doesn’t want to believe me all he needs to do is spend a few hours reading Ilan Pappe and Benny Morris who describe in detail the ethnic cleansing.
Denial does not make the truth go away.

  6. American says:

I got an e mail from JVP just now. ….sometimes petitions do some good sometimes they don’t, but can’t hurt. I have given them money from time to time although I don’t think the Jews alone can do much unless enough of them “ostracize” their zio’nazis from their tribe and make them ‘outcast’ like the zios do with their ‘self hating’ Jews. They really need a huge ‘social’ movement to make these lunatics unacceptable anywhere in society, particulary among themselves.

  7. Woody Tanaka says:

The real shame of this is that there are still people in this world who would take seriously anyone who uses “kapo” or “blood libel” in a non-academic context. These silly accusations instantly raise the presumption that the person speaking has no credibility and should be repudiated by all decent people.

  8. deb83 says:

Does anyone have an email address for the Board because I would like them to know how offensive and hurtful this is to my Palestinian family. Three members of my family are CUNY graduates and now we find out some of us are not even considered fully human by a member of the Board of Trustees. That upsets me!

    >> I asked [Wiesenfeld] if he had any doubt Kushner was an anti-Semite. He said: “Anyone who accuses the Jews of ethnic-cleansing is participating in a blood libel, so yes, he’s a Jewish anti-Semite.”

RW and eee really need to speak out against Wiesenfeld. Both of them have freely admitted that Jews committed ethnic cleansing (which they have attempted to justify as “necessary” or a “required” evil), so, by Wiesenfeld’s definition, they are anti-Semites who have committed a blood libel.

Funny, RW and eee never really struck me as self-loathing Jews.

  10. seafoid says:

Zionism is a joke at this stage. It’s about maintaining Jewish privilege and nothing else and anything that can be done, no matter how hysterical, how ludicrous or how damaging to the long term interests of the cause, is done.
It’s as if they know deep down that they have built a monster but they won’t look it in the eye and hope that if they cover their ears it will all just go away.

  11. Shingo says:

“Anyone who accuses the Jews of ethnic-cleansing is participating in a blood libel, so yes, he’s a Jewish anti-Semite.”

So that would make Benny Morris, Shlomo Ben Ami and tens of thousands of Israeli Jews Jewish anti-Semites. I’m sure that they’d be shocked to learn they were all anti Semites and didn’t realize it.

  12. RoHa says:

Wiesenfeld is making “Anti-Semite” a term of praise.

  13. “Anyone who accuses the Jews of ethnic-cleansing is participating in a blood libel, so yes, he’s a Jewish anti-Semite”

Can someone explain to me why this clown should be in any important academic position? Since when has “minimal amount of logical thinking” ceased to be a precondition for such a position?
