The following press release was sent out by a group called the Olive Revolution, which describes itself as an "unarmed, popular, patriotic, and human revolution against Israeli occupation." The release announces a day of action to "knock on Jerusalem's gates" by marching on the city from four directions this Friday. You can follow the protest over Twitter and Facebook.
PRESS RELEASE
Olive Revolution
August 23, 2011
We from the Olive Revolution (popular revolution and national humanitarian non-armed revolution against the Israeli occupation) start the campaign ‘Knocking on Jerusalem’s Doors’ Part of Jerusalem week activities as a response to all the Israeli policies of Judaizing Jerusalem. We state that Jerusalem will remain the jewel of the Arabs and capital of our future country. Jerusalem is the symbol of our pride and our national dignity that’s why we are going to knock on its doors by popular demonstrations and non-violent activities which start with the Friday prayers on the 26th of August 2011. We are planning to knock on four doors:
1. The Northern section Qalandia.
2. The Western section of the Apartheid Wall in the village of Biddu, northwest of Jerusalem.
3. The Eastern door in Shufat.
4. The Southern door at Rachel's Tomb in Bethlehem.
Members of the Legislative Council, Ministers, Members of the Central Committees & offices of political parties and factions will be present at the four doors.
We are also keen to organize a demonstration at Beit Hanoun set to take place simultaneously with ‘the people knocking on the doors’ of our beloved Jerusalem demonstrations.
Olive Revolution in coordination with the Central Committee for the right of return march declares that this event will take place within the week celebrating Jerusalem day/youm AlQuds in Palestine.
We would be honored by your participation; we welcome your ideas and suggestions for any further activities which express our appreciation and importance of the city of Jerusalem.
It's an ongoing revolution until we achieve freedom, justice and peace for all.

Yom al-Quds held on the last Friday of Ramadan in many countries against the Israeli occupation was started in 1979 by Ayatollah Khomenei. It’s the day when Israel puts on its worst ever behaviour, so now with this planned non-violent march on Jerusalem from 4 different directions, I’d expect the Israeli military to be at its super ugliest and I wish the Olive Revolution success in the march.
And when it comes to being Palestinian, success means something we probably all take for granted: simply living to see another day.
Can it be???? My housemate just informed me that “we” are sending Paul Bremer to Libya to ramrod a nation building effort.
Bremer???? Are you shittin’ me?
If true, it utterly and completely puts this posturing fraud Obama in the Bush Clone category. Read Naomi Klein’s “Bagdad Year Zero” to get a fix on the kind of shit Bremer brings to the table.
I cannot find any substantiation for the Bremer thing. He IS mentioned in a number of articles that insinuate the Iraq model as being a potential policy towards Libya.
Its my sincere hope that the Bremer thing is just rumor. Obama has already shown himself as a posturing fraud. We need no further substantiation, particularly in the form of destructive policy.
Well, If Bremer is involved, I see there has already been a response…
The DC area was just rocked by a 5.9 quake.
I guess his Lightning Bolt Generator must be on the fritz.
there is a thread on libya poa. i’m not sure how this information is relevant to this thread.
Its really quite simple, Annie. Its NOT relevent to this thread.
Under Bremer, the reconstruction-of-bomb-damage war-profiteers took off like banshees, and $-billion(s) went unaccounted for. Oh, oh, my, do the Halliburton-type war-profiteers love war-reconstruction. And the oil-companies love to grab up up-for-grabs oil production (if any).
Wheeeeeee.
Don’t worry about Bremer. The Independent
link to independent.co.uk
tells us that James Bond and the SAS won the war, and that Britain is already planning the reconstruction. So that’s all right.
PBS did an excellent 1 hour documentary covering (among other things) Bremer’s disastrous “efforts” in Iraq:
The Lost Year in Iraq
I just heard Martin Indyk is going to be part of it too.
I’m not so sure announcing this action beforehand was such a good idea, but then the zionist spies are everywhere and would have found out about it anyway … most likely IDF will close all the roads and set up barricades and commit all kinds of violent acts against the hopefully non-violent marchers
good for them. my heart and prayers go out to them.
>> We from the Olive Revolution (popular revolution and national humanitarian non-armed revolution against the Israeli occupation) …
So, in a word, “dissent”.
>> … most likely IDF will close all the roads and set up barricades and commit all kinds of violent acts against the hopefully non-violent marchers
And if the IDF’s acts elicit a violent response – even if the IDF “started it” – it will consider itself justified to engage in “belligerent reprisals” because, y’know, Israel has a right to defend itself. “Humanists” call this “live #AND# let live”.
I wish the protesters well, and I hope for peace and non-violence on both sides.
There is no such thing as a “peaceful protest” if the IDF becomes involved.
I’m rather waiting for the IDF to turn on the tent cities in Tel Aviv. If the protests last too long, that gets more and more likely.
The IDF does not operate against Israeli citizens within Israel. If anyone would evacuate the tent cities, it would be the police, but because of the popular support for the tent cities, the main tent cities will probably not be touched.
Besides, even if someone does tell the police to evacuate the tent cities, it would go rather peacefully and there is no danger of anyone being shot. Just look at the building in Tel-Aviv evacuated of squatters the other day.
Sorry to dash your hopes for blood-soaked tent cities.
You better keep hoping Netanyahu and company don’t take the easy way out. It’s not like Israel has any sort of constitution that would make that sort of action categorically illegal.
Israel doesn’t have a constitution (i.e. one document plus amendments), but it does have a body of legal precedents and the Basic Law that make up Israel’s “constitutional law”. It is what they call an uncodified constitution.
Really inspiring…
