Panicked ‘Post,’ guardian of Palestinian freedom, warns Abbas he’s hurting Palestinians

Offensive editorial at the Washington Post says that the Palestinians are in a “heedless rush” for statehood — yes, a rush after 63 years (during which Kosovo, East Timor, Pakistan, and Bangladesh have all gotten their states without protests from the Washington Post. Oh and South Sudan. Where was the Post when South Sudan got its state?). Note that Netanyahu is already shifting his stance because of the Palestinian act. And note the Post’s repulsive claim that Abbas is hurting the Palestinians, as if the editorial board cares about human rights in Palestine.

Mr. Netanyahu now appears ready to accept the principle, provided a recognition that Israel will not return to the 1967 lines. Were he serious about achieving statehood, Mr. Abbas would seize on that point — which he defined as critical just months ago — and proceed with negotiations about drawing a border. Instead, he appears likely to stick with his grand gesture — and to let Palestinians pay the price.
