Ordinary citizens, making a difference

Here’s a great little video from Albuquerque, New Mexico. Although a little aged it is not outdated in the least and I never saw it until today. More important, I believe more of this kind of citizen action is needed today all across our country. Check out the personal voices and the clear, homegrown simple nature of this action. The video gives us an opportunity to see these are just ordinary people like you and me with ordinary faces and ordinary voices making an exceptional difference in our world. This is all it takes and we are growing.

We covered these billboards before– Man who says he is former AIPAC member puts up billboards decrying Gaza as monstrous inhumanity. And here: Billboards criticizing US aid to Israel taken down under pressure. And then again here: Billboards criticizing US aid to Israel return to Albuquerque.

Then in March 2011 the group Coalition to Stop 30 Billion to Israel put up another design I’m sure you are all familiar with–  Two Peoples One Future.

Be On Our Side

Their campaign inspired citizen action in Chicago, New York, San Francisco, Portland, Wahington DC, Boston, Arizona and Seattle.

The video was produced by Susan Schuurman and Shot on a DVX100 with a handheld mic and edited on Final cut Pro.

    Another video, up on YouTube:

This video shows the panic that the Boycott-Israel moving is causing. It also shows the extremely strong ties that Israel had with Apartheid South Africa.

that’s actually an impressive video BIoC. it’s sort of long but it packs a psychological punch. i didn’t know malcolm said that about zionism or zionists or whatever it was he said.

        Thanks Annie,

Here is Malcolm’s 1964 article against the inexcusable racism that Zionism has always represented. It’s reprinted on a fine Pan-African blog:

        link to panafricannews.blogspot.com

        ———————-

Here is the relevant quote from Malcolm’s article:

“Did the Zionists have the legal or moral right to invade Arab Palestine, uproot its Arab citizens from their homes and seize all Arab property for themselves just based on the ‘religious’ claim that their forefathers lived there thousands of years ago? Only a thousand years ago the Moors lived in Spain. Would this give the Moors of today the legal and moral right to invade the Iberian Peninsula, drive out its Spanish citizens, and then set up a new Moroccan nation … where Spain used to be, as the European zionists have done to our Arab brothers and sisters in Palestine?…”

thanks so much BIoC, i had no idea malcolm ever spoke about zionism. the entire speech is quite revealing and worth reading.

        CAMOUFLAGE

The Israeli Zionists are convinced they have successfully camouflaged their new kind of colonialism. Their colonialism appears to be more “benevolent,” more “philanthropic,” a system with which they rule simply by getting their potential victims to accept their friendly offers of economic “aid,” and other tempting gifts, that they dangle in front of the newly-independent African nations, whose economies are experiencing great difficulties. During the 19th century, when the masses here in Africa were largely illiterate it was easy for European imperialists to rule them with “force and fear,” but in this present era of enlightenment the African masses are awakening, and it is impossible to hold them in check now with the antiquated methods of the 19th century.

The imperialists, therefore, have been compelled to devise new methods. Since they can no longer force or frighten the masses into submission, they must devise modern methods that will enable them to manouevre the African masses into willing submission.

The modern 20th century weapon of neo-imperialism is “dollarism.”

a little ahead of his time, neo-imperialism/dollarism sounds like neoliberalism and is not exclusively zionist to say the least.

i like the site too, have you checked out the home page

The women said they didn’t know al-Shabab was considered a foreign terrorist organization.

        gee, wonder why? i don’t.

thanks again, you should visit the site more often.

I saw something on the net about android apps and one looked particularly interesting

Red Laser – can scan a barcode and find you the cheapest online price.
    link to redlaser.com

For years I have dreamt of a device that would read barcodes of Israeli products and give the reasons to boycott them. Is there anyone out there who could do a Red Laser job for BDS?

Actually you could go one step further and link the scan of the barcode to a site with ready to print boycott stickers specified to the product in question.

this amazing video has been seen by little more than 1600 people. i hope that changes. i hope it goes down in history as an example of the kind of citizen action that helped end israel’s apartheid and ended america’s support for israel inhumane and illegal occupation of palestine. so watch the video and pass it on!

the israel-firsters insist that anti-zioniists forsake israel’s six million jews, and therefore are anti-jewish

during south africa’s apartheid days a related charge, that of being race traitors was leveled at caucasians who supported african liberation

in the time of the 3rd reich, german-americans similarly were under pressure to put “blut” before u. s. citizenship and support the fatherland

so were the caucasians who supported justice in south africa or the german-americans who resisted the appeal to back hitler’s nazi germany traitors to the cause?

or were they acting in the best interest of their people?

same as anti-zionists, in opposing the colonial entity israel, are acting in the best interests of jewish people

The BBs started a few yrs ago, and there was resistance thru typically obscure channels that resulted in BB companies cancelling agreements with Palestine groups paying for the BBs. The BBs in ABQ were cancelled I think. Are they back up? The BB campaign kept going and there was still resistance but not totally successful as we’ve seen, though some of the messages are unnecessarily innocuous in my view. My favorite would be the WTC towers burning and a caption, “your tax dollars at work. end aid to Israel”…quelle scandale…

Every time I go thru airport security I’m tempted to remark loudly, “a small price to pay for supporting the only democracy in the Middle East”, but that would be asking for it no doubt.
