Just got my New York Times from the driveway and slid it out of its sleek blue bag. Can’t find a word about the Freedom Rides in Palestine yesterday. But this is on Page 8. Shocking:
Israeli Army May Need to Hit Gaza, General Says
By ISABEL KERSHNER
JERUSALEM — Israel’s military chief of staff warned Tuesday that the repeated rounds of escalated violence in the south would eventually require Israel to carry out another large-scale military operation in Hamas-controlled Gaza.
And this was the Associated Press story on the Freedom Rides yesterday. Not a word about Freedom Rides until the 7th paragraph. I am told that AP did better later in the afternoon. But this piece referred repeatedly to “travel restrictions” and said they were an answer to Israeli security concerns.
Palestinian activists arrested on Israeli bus
By DIAA HADID
The Associated Press
HIZMA CHECKPOINT, West Bank — Six Palestinian activists, clutching national flags and surrounded by dozens of reporters, were dragged off an Israeli bus they planned to ride into Jerusalem after a standoff with police Tuesday.
And segregation is dealt with in euphemism:
hoping to draw attention to what they call discriminatory measures in the West Bank, particularly travel restrictions.
Yeah, you know, they’re just travel restrictions. I mean, what other country today on the face of the planet has been subjecting a few million people to “travel restrictions” for more than 40 years?
Just imagine if some shmuck in Brooklyn had to get a travel permit to go to Brookline, the whole world wouldn’t hear the end of it.
A grave in East Bumble**** Austria gets desecrated, the local news of a Midwestern American city reports about it. Meanwhile, the mosque that gets torched in that same city, doesn’t get one sentence’s-worth of coverage on the local rag.
The American mainstream media is Occupied Territory by the likes of Kershner.

Israel needs emergency sociopsychiatric attention
I wonder what Isabel Kershner will say when Zionism falls. Will she be there at Masada for the denouement ?
Dear, dear AP. Wholly owned and operated subsidiary by we-own-USA-and-operate-it-on-behalf-of-Israel-Inc. a/k/a/ The Lobby.
Sorry, that is the NYT. AP seems a bit better. Count your blessings.
When the OWS folks see themselves as “like” (or “being treated like”) Palestinians, OWS may find its voice w.r.t. Palestine AND may realize that privilege is never given up without a demand and without a battle.
Thanks to correspondent Joel Greenberg, we Washington Post readers had a good story about the Freedom Riders to digest. In this story Greenberg again references Palestinian activist Hurriyah Ziada about whom he wrote before: Mondoweiss should invite her to post here!
