Director Peter Berg was interviewed by Israeli Channel 10 to promote his new board game-inspired film Battleship and got pretty far off topic. He kinda gets it together enough to plug Rihanna, but whoa don't get him started on draft dodgers!
Man, I wish that interviewer had it together enough to work in a "you sunk my battleship" reference, but he just looks terrified that the Shin Bet is now going to show up and haul him off.
Anyway, Battleship hits theaters this weekend in the US, no way it lives up to the original:

Ha i wondered where that guy disappeared from the TV screen.
Join the IDF mo******er
I think that actually is a copyrights violation
The paratroopers brigade sang that for years during their boot camp.
You Americans are spoiled rotten you know that Philip.
I always played that game with a pen and piece of checkered paper.
Join the IDF? Some people don’t actually like having innocent blood on their hands, Oleg.
Ooooooh we’re spoiled? How about turning down that $3 billion dollar welfare check you get from us and then trying to say that? So much for all those claims that Israel is this massive hive of neo-Tokyo technology, huh.
Berg is a mediocre film director and seemed not very well informed nor terribly coherent in his remarks to this israeli film flack … it would have been entertaining if they’d gone on another 10 minutes to get Berg fully into interview train-wreck territory … he might have brought up the dancing israelis of 9/11 or the USS Liberty “My Dad was a Navy historian” … what is of note is that people feel emboldened to speak out directly to israelis about once taboo subjects – the control has worn off
It’s nice to see the people running our mass media still have the time and energy to keep abreast of the complex issues of American foreign policy. Whoever said Hollywood was self-absorbed?
He kinda gets it together enough to plug Rihanna, but whoa don’t get him started on draft dodgers!
LOL! Rihanna was in an auxiliary military program for children in Barbados, but neither she nor Peter Berg are veterans.
What a chickenhawk that man is: *he* dodged the draft, he wants Israelis to do the work for him.
Also, for the record: there are NO draft dodgers in Israel. There are people who go AWOL (relatively few), there are refusers (like dear Noam Gur) and there people whom Israel’s army exempts.
The whole draft-dodging discourse is perplexing for that reason – what does he want, for people to do military service even if they’ve been excused by Israel’s (despicable) army?
it was an intel ship… but does anyone think a reference to the USS liberty is called for?
ralph NADER of all people, calling it out:

BTW, i am of the opinion that the israeli attempt at a false-flag on the USS liberty (which would reshape the ME, as we would turn on egypt; much like the lavon affair intended) was entirely agreed to by key people in the USG. therefore i hold them both equally responsible [israel and the US]. i believe this due to the US response to the distress call, and the speed and efficiency of the cover-up, which should have consisted of more righteous indignation from the top of the USG than what we saw.
i asked a certain colonel in the air force i know about the USS liberty, to see his response. i thought he’d defend the standard story or something. he responded quickly with “that was an act of war”. of course, in my opinion it was not an act of war…. it was a planned false-flag between the highest levels of our two governments (a true axis of evil?), which was unsuccessful. so it was an act of US political elite treachery and a SCAD (state crime against democracy).
i won’t go into another event that mirrored the same high level MO… ;)
Anon,
Yes, from what we do know for sure, lots of coordination and culpability on both sides and it takes two to get a false flag operation going.
What most all Americans (and Israelis) do not understand is that their governments are not working for them, nor their protection — which is the purpose of a government anyway. The conflict industry is one big sick enterprise.
We spend more on Heimatschutz (homeland security) toys for the local cops than getting the raving Meth epidemic under control.
Meanwhile the Sheeple get all teary and emotionally worked up in Jewish self identity myths associated with a piece of real estate and then send their brainwashed children into “fight for it.” And a worker in Iowa sends his 18-year-old to some isolated facility in Iraq to “protect America” only to get him back as a vegetable, minus one leg.
I was recently in a meeting with Congressional staffers on another issue. Someone at the table mentioned Israel on the side, and then like a Pavlovian bark, one of the staffers immediately interjected totally off topic, “we ‘gotta always support Israel for security protection. blah blah.”
You could tell he was trained for the tirade.
And so is our entire government.
The United States government and Israel are ONE. That will never change as long as the US exists as a country.
That was hilarious.
Cocaine is a hell of a drug.

Classic Dan!
i’m w/alex..hilarious
how strange …
possibly cocaine?
On the other hand, the opening of the Kingdom is one of only two hollywood films I know that connect 9/11 and Israel. A brave thing to do?
You can see the powerful opening titles here :

that film and this man now don’t seem like the same director
My grocery list is more important than yet another crappy merchandise-movie Hollywood product.
I don’t see the point of the Peter Berg interview. Let me rephrase that. It’s pointless.
Everybody has bad hair days, gets over exhausted and looks less than “fresh”. My question is: don’t you have the sense to stay away from cameras and microphones on those days?
TMZ, that brave journalistic source is going to run this clip and lampoon Peter Berg and mention the movie. That’s the point. Generate publicity for the movie. Hurrah!
Sure to be the cultural event of the season, somehow, I will miss it.
Remember the good old days when Godzilla threatened Tokyo? Classic. Now, it’s all about the United States and some “thing” threatening to destroy it, again. Aliens…again. (Independence Day) Earthquakes, Tsunamis, Volcanoes, Aliens, again.
The Cold War was good for Hollywood. Democracy against Communism. Good guys and Bad guys. Now, Hollywood imports the enemy from outer space. (Again) Aliens pose an existential threat to the United States and the World! (Again) Of course the Good guys will, somehow triumph…(Hurrah!) AND personally, I’m left with the rhetorical question: “Has Hollywood run out of (good) ideas?” (Again)
A Movie based on a board game. The board game is decent, I play it with my kids, complete with our own sound effects of explosions. A Movie based on the board game? I think the pitch for the movie went something like this:
Pitch Guy: “AND then the Navy comes.. and it’s submarines, and aircraft carriers, destroyers AND BATTLESHIPS! ”
Studio Executive: “BATTLESHIPS?…Like the board game?”
Pitch Guy: YEAH! Just like the board game!
Studio Executive: “I hate that game, my brother always won, cheat, cheat, cheat…
I think we’ll pass on this one.”
Pitch Guy: AND…There’s Aliens!
Studio Executive: Ahhh… Aliens? O.k. Let’s do it!
I hope this trend continues because I really want to see the Movie, “Snakes & Ladders” starring “the Rock” and Jim Carrey. The Plot? Unnecessary!
How about Monopoly? Starring Donald Trump as the Realtor Magnate who owns Park Avenue and Boardwalk Place and co-starring a number of equally talented B-list celebrities. Bring it on Hollywood! Make it a comedy!
Or Monopoly with a twist. More dramatic. Like the Banker approves Mortgages to homeowners that don’t have an income! No Income, No Job Approvals! We’ll call them “NINJA” Loans. AND then the Banks sell their investment to other Banks, AS IF, it’s guaranteed and fully insured! The Big Banker, you know the guy with the top hat and cigar, he gets huge bonuses for screwing everybody over, the President gives him a “get out of jail free” card and BAILS OUT THE BANKS with everyone else’s money!
What a farce! Is it a tragedy or a comedy…maybe both, but definitely fiction cause that would never happen in real life, would it? Anyways, while your considering that, I should call Judd Apatow with some more ideas.
FOOTNOTE: In the End, Michael Moore squeezes out; one more “documentary” A disaster Movie that depicts the United States being utterly destroyed, not by Aliens but by their own stupidity.
Samuel T, maybe Judd Apatow knows about the board game PUBLIC ASSISTANCE TM Why Bother Working For A Living? It was created by Alan B Chesley, copyrighted in 1980 Hammerhead Enterprises, Inc. Or maybe his HBO Girls do?
Now, imagine that on the Hollywood Big Screen!
PS: Public Assistance is the only board game ever banned in USA. Creators of the game took NYC to court, alleging First Amendment violation in that the city’s HR Admin urged all stores in the city not to carry the satirical game. Federal Appeals court held plaintiffs rights not violated as city did not intimidate stores or threaten them with any form of punishment or adverse regulatory action if they continued to buy and sell the game.
