A Gaza farmer declares, I shall not be moved from my land

The Palestinian Center for Human Rights has lately released a video of Gazan farmer Yousef Shaheen. Shaheen, who has been farming his land for over 20 years, describes how he continues to plant his crops by the buffer zone, no matter how many times his crops are destroyed by Israel.

One man, one story, one life. Not only does it speak to the cruelty of the occupation and blockade of Gaza– more importantly it speaks to Palestinian determination and sumud.

  1. Sumud says:

And whatever you do, don’t underestimate Sumud – the real deal. Underestimate me if you wish ;-)

Guardian article from 2011 referring to Sumud, :

Could Arab staying power ultimately defeat Zionism?

  2. ritzl says:

But, but, but, Gaza isn’t occupied…

Despite very dim collective international moral eyesight, the utter transparency of Israels lies about Palestine and Palestinians continuously invites the gaze (and perhaps some second looks and the odd scrutiny).
