Romney brags he’s got Netanyahu’s campaign consultants (and he’ll shoot you before telling their secrets)

Just when it’s supposedly anti-Semitic to talk about the fact that neocons are working for Mitt Romney, Mother Jones has published a surreptitious recording of Romney at some fundraiser in which he pretty much destroys his candidacy with a lot of stupid statements about government programs– and also says he’s got Netanyahu’s braintrust working for him:

I have a very good team of extraordinarily experienced, highly successful consultants, a couple of people in particular who have done races around the world. I didn’t realize it. These guys in the US—the Karl Rove equivalents—they do races all over the world: in Armenia, in Africa, in Israel. I mean, they work for Bibi Netanyahu in his race. So they do these races and they see which ads work, and which processes work best, and we have ideas about what we do over the course of the campaign. I’d tell them to you, but I’d have to shoot you.

I think Romney is referring to the secretive and mysterious Arthur Finkelstein. Sheldon Adelson was to meet with him earlier this year in New York to talk about a SuperPAC. And the Times said he was working for Netanyahu in 1996, to destroy the two-state solution. Which is still Adelson’s main chore. NYT:

And he [Finkelstein] has helped craft simple, similarly stinging television advertisements for Benjamin Netanyahu, the conservative challenger to Prime Minister Shimon Peres.

These commercials contend that Mr. Peres would divide Jerusalem between Israel and a Palestinian state and would return the Golan Heights to Syria with virtually no concessions; they close with the slogan “Making a Secure Peace.” The implication is that peace under Mr. Peres would be riddled with anxiety.

  1. “I have a very good team of extraordinarily experienced”
I think Bush said something of that nature while speaking at AEI [ I have stolen best of the best from your organization or You have provided this adminsitration with the most experinced public servants]
It did not turn out well even for him .He was blamed for Iraq debacle by these very brains who went out to claim that he did not listen to them.

my favorite thing about these videos is that some cater-waiter used the now ubiquitous smart-phone to record this and it is going to undo the plutocrats’ plans through their tool Romney … yea working-class! What these smug, condescending plutocrats forget is that the working-class are all around them all the time serving them – very close, watching, listening, thinking … and now, recording and uploading

  3. From -NPR “NPR Politics8:08 PM – PublicThe presidential campaign of Mitt Romney has weathered several difficult days in a row. Last week, conservatives criticized Romney for remarks he made about unrest in Libya and Egypt. Over the weekend, a story in Politico revealed internal sniping within the Romney high command. On Monday the Romney campaign vowed to get back to substance. But their efforts may be thwarted by an article on the website of Mother Jones, which contained excerpts from a video secretly recorded at a Romney fundraiser, in which he disparaged supporters of President Obama” link to npr.org
And no mention of Israel or neoocns or Ntahhayoo!! Did I miss something.

Another exapmle of distraction and obfuscation or may be simply the exercise of freedom of expression with right to remain silent.

NPR says it’s true that 47% of Americans pay no income tax..I find that astounding…had no idea.
But what it really reveals is 47% don’t make enough money to pay taxes….that’s the bigger problem.

      • Danaa says:

But what it really reveals is 47% don’t make enough money to pay taxes….that’s the bigger problem.

That’s exactly the problem, American. I’ve been aware of this statistics for awhile from a couple of economics related web site I read (my number was closer to 48% though). One writer helped break the number down to the different categories that pay little or no taxes. This includes the large number of people who live off Social Security only, for example (many more than people suspect though I don’t have the numbers handy), as well as Social Security disability. This income is not taxed (and can be as high as $30K or so) though any additional income is taxed.

But the most shocking statistics is the huge number of people – and their dependents – that make so little money that they fall near or below the exemptions floor (which include child care tax credit etc). This shows, more than anything else, that we have a large, seemingly permanent underclass in the country, and I suspect that’s who Romney was directing his comment to. Funny how he forgot to mention himself as representative of the other class of people – albeit a very much smaller slice – that also pay no taxes.

I’ll see if I can find that one article to give some of the numbers, though I’m sure everyone and his brother will break it down for us over the next few days.

can’t wait for the new Occupy movement “we are the 53%”! they will be camping in the inner city ghettos

That’s one way to create no daylight between the two countries. But then the Republicans already let Netanyahu deliver a State of the Union address last year.

  6. Who cares? Let’s be real – this whole Netanyahu, Adelson, Romney business amounts to a civil conflict among elite American Jewry. What’s new is that gentiles are being exposed to these divisions. From my perspective, the blatant nature of this debate simply underlines how much the U.S. ruling elite is openly Jewish. American Jews are so confident now that they can expose their dirty laundry. Maybe that’s progress.

The only thing that really matters is that some American Jewish elites have for their own reasons for the moment overruled a war on Iran. That’s great, but meanwhile they promote sanctions that diminish the lives of tens of millions of Iranians just because Israeli’s can’t handle a powerful Middle Eastern country other than their own. More importantly, sanctions premised upon Iran’s nuclear program pave the way for military intervention down the road either under this president’s second term or under a future president, Democrat or Republican. Clinton helped make the 2003 invasion possible by not relenting on sanctions and by striking at Iraq in 1998.

I’ll be frank. I get the sense that liberal Jews (and I do *not* mean Philip and the others who run this remarkable site) hate Romney not because they’re worried about going to war in the Middle East but because they like to see middle America brought down to size. They want to underline how the hillbillies and white blue collar guys alike have lost this country. There is an intense antipathy to fly-over-country, to Bible Belt types, to remnants of the industrial working class among elites both gentile and Jewish that needs to be remarked upon. And I’m sick of it. As a child of immigrants, I love not just this country but the people who built it, white and black.

  7. W.Jones says:

C’mon. Of course it’s Armenians and Africans who are running the campaigns over there, not the other way around. (joke)

  8. we have ideas about what we do over the course of the campaign. I’d tell them to you, but I’d have to shoot you.

    Creepy.

Not that Mitt could be much of a shot, but we need to realize that the only way Mitt might win by now is if Obama gets taken out. And Seamus probably would be unwilling to do it. Seamus does not consider Obama to be an existential threat.

Things like this – “shoot you” – are making the 2008 McCain-Palin hatefest seem simply improv. It will get worse as Mitt commits more major errors.

    • seafoid says:

Philip – wasn’t Seamus Romney’s cat who travelled roof class ?

It always reminds me of this story from the Guardian talkboards (RIP).

      GeorgeOrwell – 04:43pm Aug 9, 2007 GMT (#210 of 222)

My parents had a cat called Seamus.
One day, after taking him to the vet, my mum popped into the supermarket with Seamus in his cage in the boot of the car. She bumped into a friend and apologised for not being able to chat, saying “I can’t stop but Seamus is in the car and he’ll have crapped himself again – either that or he’s covered in sick. He hates the cage.” My mum’s friend admitted months later, that she presumed my mum was referring to an elderly uncle.

oh, but you’re wrong. he scored really well on his college entrace exams and got into harvard, harvard you hear, and, so, like, he must be wicked smart. i simply won’t stand by as you imply that this country is being run by certifiable morons and the emotionally retarded. please, show the proper respect and first genuflect before you criticize.

  10. ColinWright says:

Well…I don’t think we need to worry about ol’ Mitt anymore.

“”There are 47% of the people who will vote for the president no matter what,” Mr Romney is seen saying, referring to the percentage of Americans who have no income tax liability.

“There are 47% who are with him, who are dependent upon government, who believe that they are victims, who believe the government has a responsibility to care for them, who believe that they are entitled to health care, to food, to housing, to you-name-it. “…”

Labeling half the electorate welfare cheats is a stroke of genius.

    FROM The Daily Telegraph, 8/16/08:

[EXCERPT] . . . In the 1996 election in Israel, Arthur Finkelstein, the American consultant who had turned ‘liberal’ into a swear word, used polling data to pinpoint precisely the issue over which Israelis would reject a deal with the Palestinians—the division of Jerusalem—and propel Benjamin Netanyahu to a victory based on exemplary scare-mongering. . .

  12. Eva Smagacz says:

Right, but doesn’t that cut too close for comfort to that famous political satire Dialog in Hell between Machiavelli and Montesquieu by Maurice Joly later re-written to be “Protocols of Elders of Zion”: shadowy Israelites travelling the globe to use media to win positions in government for people they want / support / control ?

Joly’s satire stood test of “literary” time, and maintained it’s popularity not because of its Jewish proponents (Illuminaties or Masons would work just as well) but because it is eminently doable in real world, and we glimpse application of methods contained within it all the time.

  14. Ellen says:

Not only…looks like Romney is, indeed, a Manchurian candidate for Israel.

More out of the Florida fund raiser:

“Romney was indicating he did not believe in the peace process and, as president, would aim to postpone significant action: “[S]o what you do is, you say, you move things along the best way you can. You hope for some degree of stability, but you recognize that this is going to remain an unsolved problem…and we kick the ball down the field and hope that ultimately, somehow, something will happen and resolve it.”

Romney is another clueless George Jr.. It’s hard to explain this kind of lack of awareness and lack of comprehension or understanding of the wider society.
Except in some people like this they actually think ‘they’ achieved something by their own superiority instead of realizing/admitting their success was set up by family wealth or connections from the beginning.
Take everything away from a Romney or George Jr. and put them on the street and chances are they couldn’t make it on their own merit.
They really are the incurious village idiots..totally oblivious to any others world.
