Weiner’s Park Ave apartment belongs to man whose ‘only agenda’ is Israel

Today’s New York Times has a profile of Huma Abedin, Anthony Weiner’s wife and an aide to Hillary Clinton, that describes Abedin as the driving force behind Weiner’s political resurrection and bid to be NY mayor. It states:

The couple live in a spacious Park Avenue apartment owned by a Clinton donor.

Huh? Why no identification? In April the Times stated that the apartment is owned by Jack Rosen of the American Jewish Congress, who is a big Clinton supporter; but back then, the Times bought the Weiners’ claim that politics had nothing to do with the deal:

The Weiner family and their landlord say the arrangement is nothing special — an apartment found through standard means in exchange for a market rent… “The Weiner family was introduced to 254 Park Avenue South by a third-party broker,” Roxanne Donovan, spokeswoman for the building’s sponsor, said in a statement. (She declined to identify the broker.)

Just like Hillary’s commodities trading back in Arkansas!

Last summer when the New York Post broke the story, it said “close Clinton pal” Rosen is also a former Weiner donor; that he paid $3.3 million for the place; and the Post suggested that Weiner is getting a sweetheart deal:

Rosen — who oversees the American Jewish Congress — is an influential international political force. He’s been a guest at the White House, flies the Clintons in his private plane, and has poured money into both Bill and Hillary Clinton’s election campaigns over the years, according to campaign-finance records.

He has also contributed several thousand dollars to Weiner’s coffers, and is a top Obama bundler, donating more than $500,000 to the president’s re-election efforts….

Some Weiner-watchers are stunned that the pol, who gave up his $174,000 salary when he resigned, and Huma, who makes around $155,000 annually, can afford the posh pad at 254 Park Ave. South at East 20th Street.

“It’s a ridiculously expensive place,” said a top Democratic fund-raising source with deep ties to the Clintons.

“Everyone assumes they live there for free, thanks to a donor, a friend of Bill and Hillary, or even just someone with an empty place who is connected,” the source said.

And what does Jack Rosen care about? The Forward says Israel is his entire agenda. In fact, Obama held a fundraiser at Rosen’s house in 2011 as a way of claiming to the Jewish community that he’s got Israel’s back.

Rosen, a lawyer and real estate investor, was a Bill Clinton supporter who backed George W. Bush in 2004. Over the past decade, he has given approximately $50,000 each to both the RNC’s Republican National State Elections Committee and the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee.

Rosen’s politics are driven by his support for Israel, according to New York Democratic political consultant Hank Sheinkopf. “Jack Rosen is doing what’s right for Israel, and that’s his only agenda,” Sheinkopf said.

After Sheinkopf emailed Rosen to congratulate him on the [Obama] fundraiser, Rosen responded: “It was a good evening for Israel.”

Rosen is tight with neoconservatives; as the Forward noted, he also supported George W. Bush. He’s a board member of the Hudson Institute, and he praises Netanyahu and wonders when Obama will make “good on his pledge to stop Iran before it acquires nukes.” No wonder Obama was “absolutely livid” when the Democratic platform left out the undivided Jerusalem plank last summer.

One reason I have such a strong belief in the power of the Israel lobby is that the media don’t report on the fact that Anthony Weiner is in the apartment of an Israel lobbyist–as if these connections are verboten. If they did report this stuff, then we’d be in a better position to say how large a factor it is in our politics. As it is, though, the mystification is a big part of the problem.

Oh and something else the Times left out. Today’s piece has this to say about Huma Abedin’s background:

On Thursday, [Weiner] said that one thing he regretted missing in Congress was the chance to defend his wife from accusations lodged last year by Representative Michele Bachmann of Minnesota and other House Republicans, who suggested that Ms. Abedin may be tied to Muslim extremists.

But the piece doesn’t state that she is a Muslim. Shouldn’t we know that? Isn’t this one way we fight Islamophobia?

The fact that the Clintons are very close to a guy like Jack Rosen is a big argument against voting for Hillary. She’ll go to the right of Obama, who himself admits that he has governed like a Rockefeller Republican.

And Anthony Weiner, you might recall, himself claimed that he was in the ‘ZOA Wing of the Democratic party’.

The ZOA is somewhat to the right of the Irgun gang on matters concerning Zionism.
Is this a key reason why Rosen, who is probably not far off the same position, supports Weiner?

But as you say, journalists used to be told to ‘follow the money’ but apparently that rule is anti-Semitic in some cases.

Weiner is the guy from the underpants story , isn’t he?

MY COMMENT: That’s why, for the remainder of his presidency, the Israel-Palestine conflict will be Obama’s “Chinatown”. Like the DA told that “nosy fella”* Jake Gittes, one should do “as little as possible” when assigned to Chinatown.
Consequently, regarding the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, expect to see from Obama a heavily camouflaged policy of “benign neglect”.
“I get burned once, shame on them; I get burned twice, shame on me!”

FROM THE 1974 FILM CHINATOWN:

Evelyn Mulwray: “Tell me, Mr. Gittes: Does this often happen to you?”
Jake Gittes: “Actually, this hasn’t happened to me for a long time.”
Evelyn Mulwray: “When was the last time?”
Jake Gittes: “Why?”
Evelyn Mulwray: “It’s an innocent question.”
Jake Gittes: “In Chinatown.”
Evelyn Mulwray: “What were you doing there?”
Jake Gittes: “Working for the District Attorney.”
Evelyn Mulwray: “Doing what?”
Jake Gittes: “As little as possible.”
Evelyn Mulwray: “The District Attorney gives his men advice like that?”
Jake Gdittes: “They do in Chinatown.”

Is Huma now going to be accused of being a ‘self-hating muslim’? Like Hiirsi?

Good grief.

And he wants to run for Mayor……..with his “tented knickers” (lol, Phil) while kowtowing to Rosen and living on his dime on Park Ave.

(talk about bought and paid for)
