Netanyahu’s bloody incitement

Middle East

Let’s agree on the facts.  One Palestinian male got into a West Bank settlement and killed a 13-year-old  Israeli girl in her room with a knife. Nothing more, nothing less. Before her body was cold, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu rushed the same day to make a video for the English speaking world.

What is the purpose of this Netanyahu video? What more does the world need to know about this terrible event? Why is he showing us her gruesome bloodstained room? Why are we hearing about her teddy bear?

Is Israel under siege by child killers– so this is a call for Interpol or FBI help? No that’s not whats happening here.

Netanyahu is “interpreting” one isolated event for the world, talking about one Palestinian killing one girl, and deriving a political lesson. Let’s see what he has to say.

This morning a terrorist sneaked into the bedroom of a 13-year-old girl, Hallel-Yaffa Ariel. He murdered young Hallel in cold blood. A picture of her blood stained room is almost too hard to see. There’s a teddy bear still on her bed, a red beanbag chair, some pictures on the wall, shoes tightly packed in a bin next to her bunk bed.

Why would any person do this?

You don’t murder a sleeping child for peace. You don’t slit a little girl’s throat to protest a policy you don’t like.

You do this because you’ve been brainwashed. You’ve been brainwashed by a warped ideology that teaches you that this child isn’t human.

Let me offer an alternative theory that doesn’t need much brainwashing. How about hate? How about revenge? I know that Israelis would like to tell the world that Palestinians should feel privileged to be occupied by Jews but– they don’t feel that way.

Revenge for what you ask? How how about we look at the last  murderous Palestinian attack in Tel Aviv. These men lived in occupied territory and one had seen his house blown up by Israeli forces when he was a child. It is not a mystery to those not “blinded by their passions” what Palestinians have to avenge.

What about just last week: the murder of  another child that the world will never hear about. A 15 year old Palestinian boy on his way back from a family outing was indiscriminately slaughtered on a highway in occupied territory by Israeli soldiers because they thought he might have been a stone thrower.

No pictures of the blood stained car. No  interviews with all the injured survivors. No smooth talking Palestinian political ideologue talking about the “Jewish Jihadis” shooting up cars of Palestinians for no reason. In that video to the English speaking world that never happened, a Palestinian leader would say: “And what does that killing tell you about what it’s like to be occupied by these people”?

And he would then go on to other murders of a racial character: the Israeli medic who executed an incapacitated Palestinian on the street in Hebron in March and was embraced by his society. And another medic: Baruch Goldstein, who shot up the Ibrahimi mosque in 1994, killing 29.

“Think what it means that these medics murder Palestinians so easily,” the Palestinian would say in his video. Why would any person do this? You do this because you’ve been brainwashed. You’ve been brainwashed by a warped ideology that teaches you that this child isn’t human.”

Can you imagine the charges of “incitement” hurled at this  smooth-talking Palestinian leader or spokesman? How many anti-semitic blood libels, tropes and canards  would he be accused of spreading?

And as far as Netanyahu’s reference to slitting a little girl’s throat somehow  aking Palestinians less human than Israelis who kill with more impersonal weapons– this Palestinian leader’s video I am imagining might say: “burning a kid to death is less human than even using a knife.”

But this is the incitement that goes on in Israel 24/7. This incitement is turning Israeli kids into tribal murderers. In Netanyahu’s Israel people are not thinking about the Palestinian kid murdered by an Israeli soldier shooting up the  car he was in for no reason last week. No, that was a “mistake.”  Who  is talking about what type of hate the Israeli soldier must have felt for Palestinians when he shot 15 bullets into a car of kids not threatening anyone. When Israeli soldiers and settlers encounter their Palestinian enemies in the territories, where they have almost absolute power, you don’t have to be Freud to know, that thinking of the Palestinians as thirsting for Jewish  blood, as well as hardly being part of the human race anyway, will lead to terrible behavior on their part. This is the “incitement” that is causing murders in Israel/Palestine.

Back to the video from yesterday:

“We will not let barbarism defeat humanity.

“There’s no middle ground between beautiful Hallel and her unspeakably evil murderer.”

Hold on: What barbarism are you going to stop? Isn’t the killer dead? What middle ground are you talking about? Is anyone comparing the two dead people in the story here?

“Today, each of us is going to fight back.

“I ask you to walk into your child’s bedroom before they go to sleep. I ask you to hug them. I ask you to kiss them.”

There can’t be many people in the world more shameless than Benjamin Netanyahu.

“Teach them that the values that Hallel’s murderer most detested – freedom, diversity, pluralism – will never die; we’ll always hold them dear. Tell them that we will never let fear, evil and terror triumph; that we will always stand for justice.”

Words mean nothing to Mr Netanyahu.  “We will always stand for justice” he writes.  With all due respect to Mr Netanyahu and his  great  celebration of European enlightenment values that the Jewish state and that this girl represented– this girl’s family is  breaking international law by living where they do.  And while international law is a dirty word for Netanyahu and to Israel, it isn’t to almost all of the English speakers Netanyahu is trying to hoodwink here.

Is Netanyahu capable of wondering what these people might think of him and his state when he proclaims unselfconsciously “we will always stand for justice”?

And this is how we will fight back. We fight back first by fighting back, fighting the terrorists, fighting their backers, fighting those who incite for such murder, whether in Hebron or in Orlando, or in Berlin, or in Ankara, or in Belgium, anywhere.

Any sensible viewer must ask the Prime Minister: How many Palestinian kids just as innocent as Hallel-Yaffa Ariel are going to die in your “fight back?” I remind Mr Netanyahu: the killer is dead. Who in the world are you going to convince that a  Palestinian killing Israeli settlers, even innocent girls, with a knife equals ISIS?

Here is the mayor of Tel Aviv in the wake of the Tel Aviv murders. You can’t even convince him.

Ron Huldai, the mayor of Tel Avi… in an interview with Army Radio pointed to what he saw was the underlying spark for terrorist violence: the continued Israeli occupation of the Palestinian territories.“We, as a state, are the only ones in the world with another people living among us under our occupation, denying them any civil rights,” he said

Back to Netanyahu:

“We fight back by making sure that our collective moral compass doesn’t waver even a millimeter.”

Mr Netanyahu can you keep  a straight face when you write this? All this does is make more good people disdain Israel even more. And honestly who can blame them?

“Today we will cherish Hallel’s memory. We will defend and honor her dignity by redoubling our efforts around the world to defeat the scourge of radical Islamist terror.“May Hallel’s memory forever be a blessing.”

This video is not just about one murder in the occupied territories. It represents a tragic world view, a tragic misreading of reality by the Israeli leader. Mr Netanyahu where are you going with all this? You guys have won. The Jewish National movement has crushed the Palestinian national movement; and it wasn’t even close.

Now what? Why don’t you stop with your incitement against  and dehumanization of the Palestines already? Why can’t you stop poisoning the minds and souls of your people?

I believe these very same questions are being discussed not without some panic by the whole defense establishment and even  former allies of Netanyahu. They ask, Why the  incessant “ideological wars” by Netanyahu? They don’t understand why it is so difficult for Netanyahu to realize that the relative calm Israel has in the West Bank right now and the cooperation the Israeli army has with Palestinian security forces is the best it’s gonna get. This is why I believe former PM Ehud Barak theorized that Netanyahu has “lost his mind,” and why the next election will seem like a national emergency.

Could it be that’s what this outrageous video is all about? The beginning of the next election campaign? And he knows that an “ideological war” helps his reelection prospects.

Or is it an attempted distraction before  the imminent “anti Israel” Quartet report?

Or can it be as  simple an explanation that Netanyahu has spouted so much Hasbara in his life he forgot it originally had a purpose? And now that Israel has won and settled as much as the occupied territory as they could possible get away with he just cant stop? And even though there is no need to dehumanize the Palestinians anymore,  he just is unable to pass up the photo opportunity of a 13 year old dead girl’s room with blood all over the room and even a teddy bear to boot. Who is going to dare point out this happened in the occupied territories? This murdered girl with blood on the walls has to be worth at least a week’s worth of news cycles no matter what the crazy settlers do in the meantime.

But whatever Netanyahu was thinking with this video, it is sure to raise even more questions among the Israeli officials in and out of government who view Benjamin Netanyahu as the biggest threat to the whole Zionist project.

Finally: Netanyahu was speaking to the English-speaking world, to us. This video, this “narrative” must be fought tooth and nail. The “ideology” and the “story” Netanyahu is telling about Jews and their enemies in this video is the most toxic propaganda, not least to the Israeli public themselves.

As I will demonstrate in weeks to come: It has been toxic to our culture and politics here in the U.S. I believe it  has poisoned our souls.

    whoa:

was this israeli style revenge? the woman was also from Bani Na’im. http://www.haaretz.com/israel-news/1.728268

A Border Police spokesman said the woman approached the Border Police security checkpoint at the entrance to the Tomb of the Patriarchs and attempted to stab the officer. The officer then fired at her, killing her on the spot. No others were wounded in the incident.
The Palestinian woman has been identified as Sara al-Hajuj Atrayera, 27, from the West Bank village of Bani Na’im.

coincidence? from the looks of the video, they didn’t need to kill her.

Apparently the soon to be released quartet report will mention Palestinian incitement. While I don’t doubt it exists it can be no worse than that made by the psycho Israeli zionists.

Nutty is a deranged opportunist. When 9/11 occurred he had nobsympathies. He was too busy plotting how to use it to his advantage. When hebdo occurred he was too busy shoving bodies out of the way to get free self promotion.

The man is the worst of the worst. One of the worst examples of humanity that has ever existed.

Good points. He is indeed a shameless opportunist. He turned the Paris tragedy into a grandstanding scenario for himself, turning up uninvited and elbowing his way in a crude way to the head of the rally in Paris. I have never seen such a classless scumbag, who politicizes any attacks against Israelis and downplays the much more numerous attacks by his people and the IDF, which the American media helps him. Where are the pictures of the burnt house of the Dwabsheh family? He ought to show that too, and whine about terrorists among Jews, and use the same ugly language when describing them.

It is a shame that our Congress, Hillary, and so many other Americans suck up to him.

Yes Kay24….Hilary is going to make things even cosier for this despicable insult to humanity by inviting him to the Whitehouse in her first month in office. Do Americans really want a Special Relationship with Israel? Look at Netanyahu and ask how many Americans share this scumbags values! Why would Americans want to willingly handover $3 billion a year to a nation full of Netanyahu’s. Palestinians have a very understandable logical reason for treating Israeli’s as they do and Netanyahu is but one glaringly obvious reason. No other World Leader has brought me closer to vomiting on a weekly basis than Netanyahu. There are over 600,000 other glaringly obvious reasons in occupied territory why Palestinians treat Israeli’s as they do. I have no sympathy for Israel…..it’s position is entirely self inflicted. They had choices….free choices and Israeli’s made a pact with the Devil Himself.

I had come upon this grisly story written by Dahlia Scheindlin, in the 972+Magazine:
    http://972mag.com/teens-murder-is-a-reminder-that-we-are-all-settlers/120342/
    – which I posted to my blog with the following comment:

“The world cannot go on pretending that the daily horror in Israel and Palestine is not worth our intervention. The obscene rapid progression of unconscionable violence and pandering to the politicians is destroying lives. Children are the most frequent targets.

Ms. Scheindlin is right: We are all settlers. Not just the Israelis. Every citizen of this planet who refuses to apply pressure where necessary.

    Today.

    Now.

The Palestinian Naqba is no longer confined to Israel and Palestine. It is exported by fanatics from both countries who terrorize humanity not only with guns, but also with technology by hackers, and professional criminals who break into homes where they steal, gas, rape, corrupt electrical outlets, intercept mail, copy files, interfere with one’s pursuit of life, liberty, privacy and pursuit of happiness and freedom.

I should know. I have been speaking out, calling for what should have been the easiest conflict to resolve. I am being “”punished” for daring to have the courage to act on my convictions.

My heartfelt condolences go to every parent who has lost a child to this pointless criminal insanity to satisfy a few irrelevant egos for a few pieces of silver and inevitable condemnation by the future generations.”

No, I am not making it about me, but about every soul who has found her/himself in the crosshairs, whether directly or indirectly, while performing one’s duty in the service of justice and plain humanity, because no one will survive the next world war precipitated by an act of a person self-delivered from contemplations of his/her own future.

Expecting rationality from a psychopath makes us all into targets regardless of our involvement or absence of same.

Words mean nothing to Mr Netanyahu. “We will always stand for justice” he writes”.

Justice for whom Nutty? Is stealing lands from those you occupy “JUSTICE?”

Israel is not the beacon of light you love to pretend it is, it is a rogue nation that occupies and steals, and you talk as if your military does not kill and arrest Palestinian children. The entire world knows this although the US keeps enabling you.

And how about this disgusting response? Always the crook, and opportunist.
Not only a liar, but a man with no scruples whatsoever.

The family, living in Kiryat Arba, an illegal Jewish settlement implanted in Palestinian Al Khalil (Hebron) are United States citizens!

“In response to the killing, the Israeli army began implementing what have become habitual measures of collective punishment, including sealing off Tarayra’s home village, Bani Naim, indefinitely.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu also announced that he would revoke the work permits of Tarayra’s relatives and demolish his family’s home.”

“Context” for me, and “nothing more than…” for thee make sense as a political strategy, but it is not helpful otherwise, in my opinion. Nor is it morally mature.

Of course this was not just about one man and one girl. There is a context. Is there such a thing as the isolated actions of a lone settler or lone IDF soldier? There is an appeal to innocence which is powerful, but there is no isolated action.

In which context you chose to frame an action is, again, politics

Bibi used the grisly little incident to place Captain Israel firmly at the side of all the world’s super heros battling the huge, hideous, backward, hissing power-mad Islamic snake. Very smart. Congress will urge Obama to throw him another quick $50 billion. Probably has a ton of pics of the little girl’s bloody room and teddy bear printed up already. Just another card to play. Meanwhile, he can just keep building settlements–after, all you must be blind not to see those settlers are on the front lines in this clash of civilizations, the very tip of the Western spear!

Of course, hardly any Westerners aside from the Russian Air Force are actually confronting ISIS. Most of the actual confrontation is being down by the Syrian Army, the Iraqi Army, and the Kurdish forces, with help from Hezbollah and the Iranians.

When the Dwabsheh family was burnt alive they were sleeping. You don’t murder a sleeping baby and the entire family for any reason.

I think that we have long passed the point where it is worth the energy to try and illustrate the contradictions and hypocrisy being spewed out on a daily basis by this loathsome excuse for a human being. Like Hitler in his time he has become totally deranged and intoxicated with power and his self image as a “great world leader “. Appeasement therefore pointless. Hopefully one of the right wing freaks who he has been relentlessly cultivating will take umbrage on his continued refusal to liberate the Temple Mount and neutralize him in the near future.

yes, you’re missing a lot. had netanyahu been successful in initiating a world war (ie nuking tehran [w/US backing] similar to sheldon adelson’s suggestion) and under cover of that world war systematically exterminated millions of palestinians then one could attach a moral equivalence to netanyahu = hitler. but you can’t reasonably make an equivalence based on facts on the ground.

albeit, i do think what’s happening and has happened in palestine qualifies as genocide based on the definitions of the crime (which does not require the systematic extermination of millions of people). but that’s not all netanyahu’s doing, it’s a continuation of a long established systematic pattern of israeli policy over decades.

comparisons to hitler are cheap, so cheap some israeli leaders and their pro israel hasbrats have been making these false equivalences for years. and not just them either. this is from 09, i am sure the list has grown:

I heard two old Israeli Jewish women arguing about the placement of their garbage containers and one called the other “garbage Hitler” . So I really agree the whole ‘using the Hitler as analogy’ is as cheap as a tin foil penny. But then the comment section of mw thrives on stupid analogies and cheap shots

        @Michelle and others

I don’t like nazi analogies. I think they are counter productive. They turn off individuals who might be sitting on the fence and willing to listen and, as well, they result in any point being made getting lost in the flack that surrounds the use of the term itself.

Is Nutty the same as Hitler? No. Is Israel the same as nazi Germany. No.

What would have been the result if world leaders had supported Hitler?

One likely outcome is that his plan to exterminate Jewish people along with Roma, mentally infirm and other targetted groups would have succeeded. Additionally had world leaders supported hitler the same result may have been acheived around the word.

WW II was horrific but despite the tremendous loss of life it was good that world leaders did not support hitler and he was stopped.

Do we hear incitement from some of Israel’s leaders and Rabbis for the elimination of Palestinians or for murder on a large scale. Yes.

Do we hear of 2SS which involve the transferring of Raba Israelis to a new Palestinian state thereby stripping them of their rights to be Israelis? Yes.

Do we see constant abuse of basic human rights for Palestinians. Yes.

Do we see ethnic cleansing on a grand scale. Yes.

Do we see Israel coveting the land of others and seeking to expand it’s borders. It can’t be denied.

Nutty/Israel does have the support of world leaders. The world has appeased Israel on a number of occassions and continues to do so. History shows that appeasing the aggressor does not work.

How far will the zionist plan for eretz Israel go? How many more violations of human rights? How many more deaths?

If never again actually meant never again world leaders would not be supporting Israel or it’s political class.

Anyway… I still think the points can be made without references to hitler or nazis. It really derails any discussion of the point being made.

As for hophmi finding it offensive. Who gives a rats ass. If only he found Israel’s human rights abuses and murders offensive he might have a moral leg to stand on while complaining.

No person is ever exactly the same as an earlier person. No situation is ever exactly the same as an earlier situation. Surely that shouldn’t be taken to mean that all historical comparisons are invalid.

        thank you old geezer.

michelle, i see your point in asking “what if” wrt world leaders supporting hitler and asking what africa would be like had the boycott against apartheid been banned. but no one here is once again ‘reminding’ everyone that all must agree hitler was the badest the ww2 holocaust was the worst and every and almost all Jewish suffering is second to none whatever

now you are just making stuff up because no one wrote that in response to you. people have different reactions to hilter comparisons — clearly everyone is not on the same page and that’s not something that is easily identifiable between pro palestine/pro israel advocates. some people do it with gusto, others steer clear, and others walk a fine line when it seems applicable. try to learn from the reactions and the way people process or discern information without taking it personally.

    Oh my! Truth!

“‘Zionist Regime Manipulates Judaism,’ Says Tehran Jewish Leader

Iranian news agency quotes Homayoun Sameyah Najafabadi as saying that Jews attended Quds Day rallies to ‘condemn the Zionist regime atrocities against Palestinians.’

The Iranian news agency IRNA quoted the head of the Tehran Jewish community as saying on Friday that there is no link between Zionism and the Jewish religion and that freedom-loving Jews support the Palestinian people.

Israel’s “Zionist regime is just a political party and there is no link between the Jewish religion and Zionism,” Homayoun Sameyah Najafabadi, Executive Director of the Tehran Jewish Committee, is reported to have told the news agency. …

… It said that Najafabadi “called on the world media to be committed to supporting the Palestinians and bringing to global attention the criminal actions by the Zionists against the Palestinians.”

@just, why not pick one of the Neturei Karta to be your go to person? It is bizarre to be quoting someone who will find himself removed from his role and probably much worse if he doesn’t do what the regime asks and expects of him. Every synagogue in Teheran has a Muslim overseer – Jews are not given the right to even manage their own houses of worship.
Listen to Kooshyar Karimi’s harrowing account of life as a Jew in the repressive hateful regime of Iran.

. Like a North Korean citizen that sings the praises of his beloved leader and espouses vitriol for his beloved leaders enemies. You can really bank on a report like that .

Btw, of the 20,000 Jews left I Iran from a previous 1000s of 1000s it is curious that so many of them have relatives living in the ‘zionist entity’ who they keep close ties with and keep up trade relations and keep their foot in the door should they have to suddenly flee Iran. The Jews in Iran are under much stricter control then average Iranians. But for the most part, if they toe the regime’s lines, they are not harassed and live their lives. But they are not under any illusions that they are loved or wanted, except as political pawns, by the mullah tyranny

“Today, each of us is going to fight back. “I ask you to walk into your child’s bedroom before they go to sleep. I ask you to hug them. I ask you to kiss them.”

What was lost in translation: You, the heavily armed settlers, today after you hug and kiss your little kindersettlers goodnight, go out and take your revenge on the other’s spawn. They aren’t even children – just small terrorists.

“Teach them that the values that Hallel’s murderer most detested – freedom, diversity, pluralism – will never die; we’ll always hold them dear. Tell them that we will never let fear, evil and terror triumph; that we will always stand for justice.”

Hallel’s parents hated the freedom, diversity and pluralism more common in the united states (though that’ll be done with soon enough), so they came here to settle in the apartments built for the “Jewish Blood is the Only Blood that Matters”, where they know that everything is for them and democracy is only used for sound bites; furnished by the friends and neighbors they left behind in the united states, but continue to live off those friends and neighbors, despising everything they and their motherland (tries to) stand for, but will continue to get their welfare checks. It’s good to be the Chosen!

Fear, evil and terror is our bread and butter; it’s how we ‘roll’ and have been rolling for about 70 years! The Palestinians will never have a state of their own. NEVER. Neither the ICC or the UN (just a nice name for a cabal of Jew-hating antisemitic goyim) is going to stop us!

“And this is how we will fight back. We fight back first by fighting back, fighting the terrorists, fighting their backers, fighting those who incite for such murder, whether in Hebron or in Orlando, or in Berlin, or in Ankara, or in Belgium, anywhere.”

The lip service paid to Orlando and “anywhere” is only that. It’s good for the zionist experiment (as long as it isn’t too many israelis). Every terrorist is a Palestinian at heart. They’re all the same, Chechnya = ISIS = Hamas = Palestinians. Nobody understands terrorism like us, it’s what we do best. We keep over a million people under lock and key. We torture, rape and murder with impunity. We make their lives hell on earth. Why? Because we can. Why can we? Because no one will stop us.

URI AVNERY ON HOW THE ISRAELIS HAVE BEEN “BRAINWASHED”:
“Israel’s Weird Elections”, by Uri Avnery, Counterpunch, 1/04/13:

[EXCERPTS] . . . The Israeli media are already to a large extent neutralized, a creeping process not unsimilar to what the Germans used to call Gleichschaltung. [SEE: Gleichschaltung @ Wikipedia – J.L.D. ]

All three TV channels are more or less bankrupt and dependent on government handouts. Their editors are practically government appointees. The printed press is also teetering on the brink of bankruptcy, except the largest “news” paper, which belongs to Sheldon Adelson and is a Netanyahu propaganda sheet, distributed gratis. [Naftali] Bennett repeats the ridiculous assertion that almost all journalists are left-wingers (meaning traitors.) He promises to put an end to this intolerable situation. . .

. . . In the coming four years, the official annexation of the West Bank to Israel may become a fact. . .

. . . If the government continues on its present course, this will lead to certain disaster – the entire country between the Mediterranean Sea and the Jordan River will become one unit under Israeli rule. This Greater Israel will contain an Arab majority and a shrinking Jewish minority, turning it inevitably into an apartheid state, plagued by a permanent civil war and shunned by the world.

If pressure from without and within eventually compels the government to grant civil rights to the Arab majority, the country will turn into an Arab state. 134 years of Zionist endeavor will come to naught, a repetition of the Crusaders’ kingdom.

This is so obvious, so inevitable, that one needs an iron will not to think about it. It seems that all major parties in these elections have this will. Speaking about peace, they believe, is poison. Giving back the West Bank and East Jerusalem for peace? God forbid even thinking about it.

The weird fact is that this week two respected polls – independent of each other – came to the same conclusion: the great majority of Israeli voters favors the “two-state solution”, the creation of a Palestinian state along the 1967 borders and the partition of Jerusalem. This majority includes the majority of Likud voters, and even about half of Bennett’s adherents.

How come? The explanation lies in the next question: How many voters believe that this solution is possible? The answer: almost nobody. Over dozens of years, Israelis have been brainwashed into believing that “the Arabs” don’t want peace. If they say they do, they are lying.

If peace is impossible, why think about it? Why even mention it in the election campaign? Why not go back 44 years to Golda Meir’s days and pretend that the Palestinians don’t exist? (“There is no such thing as a Palestinian people…It is not as though there was a Palestinian people and we came and threw them out and took their country away. They did not exist.” – Golda Meir, June 13, 1969) . . .

      P.S. ALSO SEE: “Who Will Save Israel” | by Uri Avnery | zope.gush-shalom.org | May 23, 2015

[EXCERPTS] The battle is over. The dust has settled. A new government – partly ridiculous, partly terrifying – has been installed. . .
. . . Now the situation inside Israel proper is about to change drastically.
      Two facts attest to this.
First of all, Ayelet Shaked has been appointed Minister of Justice.
One of the most extreme right-wing Israelis, she has not made a secret of the fact that she wants to destroy the independence of the Supreme Court, the last bastion of human rights. . .
. . . PERHAPS WORSE is Netanyahu’s decision to retain for himself the Ministry of Communication.
This ministry has always been disdained as a low-level office, reserved for political lightweights. Netanyahu’s dogged insistence on retaining it for himself is ominous.
The communication Ministry controls all TV stations, and indirectly newspapers and other media. Since all Israeli media are in very bad shape financially, this control may become deadly.
Netanyahu’s patron – some say owner – Sheldon Adelson, the would-be dictator of the US Republican party, already publishes a give-away newspaper in Israel, which has only one sole aim: to support Netanyahu personally against all enemies, including his competitors in his own Likud party. The paper – “Israel Hayom” (Israel Today) – is already Israel’s widest-circulation newspaper, with the American casino king pouring into it untold millions.
Netanyahu is determined to break all opposition in the electronic and written media. Opposition commentators are well advised to look for jobs elsewhere . . .
. . . One cannot avoid an odious analogy. One of the key terms in the Nazi lexicon was the atrocious German word Gleichschaltung – meaning connecting all media to the same energy source [SEE: Gleichschaltung @ Wikipedia – J.L.D. ]. All newspapers and radio stations (TV did not yet exist) were staffed with Nazis. Every morning, a Propaganda Ministry official by the name of Dr. Dietrich convened the editors and told them what tomorrow’s headlines, editorials etc. were to be.
Netanyahu has already dismissed the chief of the TV department. We don’t yet know the name of our own Dr. Dietrich. . .
