Amitai Etzioni leads The New Republic today with "Unshackle the Troops". Also headlined: "The Military Cares Too Much About Civilian Casualties." The subtext: Be more like Israel, Learn to Stop Worrying, and Inflict Civilian Casualties. This goes with Eztioni’s other recent articles urging an attack on Iran so maybe there’s a second subtext: Don’t listen to the people who worry about civilian casualties in a war with Iran.
The piece begins with Etzioni’s stipulation that he’s been in combat (during ’48 war). Another psychic price of Zionism: they are real men, we’re not; so we can’t really criticize them, we just have to support them. But maybe that consanguinity should extend to West Virginia and Texas and California families whose kids are in Afghanistan? Bring em home.
