Israeli activists charge Ian McEwan with supporting apartheid

Joseph Dana reports that Israeli activists from the Boycott From Within and Sheikh Jarrah Solidarity  movements disrupted an event with author Ian McEwan yesterday in Jerusalem. The activists were criticizing McEwan for accepting this year’s Jerusalem Prize for Literature, which they believe helps “‘whitewash’ Israeli violations of international law in the West Bank, Gaza and East Jerusalem.” Dana also explains, “the banner, “Ian McEwan Shaking Hands with Apartheid”, was a reference to McEwen’s photo opportunities with Jerusalem mayor Nir Barkat and Israeli president Shimon Peres as part of his prize recognition.

Here is a flyer the protestors handed to McEwan. One protester recounted in an email, “he did not seem very pleased.”:
