Jailbreak: Matthews says he understands why Arabs regard Israel as colonialist

I track Chris Matthews because I think he’s on to the whole flimflam operation, and once we get him to speak out about it, we can get the scales to fall from the eyes of the liberal Jewish establishment too. A friend wrote to me Monday night (I’ve had a rough week):

Seven minutes ago, commenting on how the Arab countries view Israel, Chris Matthews [transcript]: “When these leaders spend all their time talking about Israel, I can understand, I think, the Arab historic problem with Israel.  It‘s not hard to figure it out.  They see it as an interloper.  They see it, to some extent, as a colonial enterprise. I understand their arguments.” He has more complicated thoughts than he lets on.

(Though I would add that when the protesters were insisting on Mubarak leaving, Matthews said, What is it about Arab culture that the guy has to go? He went on about Arab culture for a while in a really stupid way. I explained to Chris, talking to my television, that when a pitcher screws up in a baseball game, he’s allowed to sit in the dugout; but when an umpire throws a manager out of a ballgame, he has to leave the dugout so he can’t be anywhere near the game. In America.)
