In big ad buy, ‘Committee for Israel’ urges US attack on Iran

In May Bill Kristol, chairman of the Emergency Committee for Israel and a key Romney supporter and insider who helped select Sarah Palin in the last general election cycle, said:

I’m happy to sit here and agree with President Obama [on Iran] to a considerable degree, at least as the policy has moved in the last two or three years

Well the Emergency Committee issued the above ad last week pushing Obama to attack Iran now, then aired it during Sunday shows yesterday in key locations. ECI:

In light of yet another failed round of nuclear talks with Iran this week, the Emergency Committee for Israel ad “Time To Act,” which began airing last week in New York and Washington, DC, will begin appearing this weekend on broadcast and cable in Florida, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin, with dozens of spots featured in major markets during Sunday shows, Major League Baseball games, and cable news.

ECI’s executive director, Noah Pollak, said: “President Obama says we must prevent the Iranian regime from getting nuclear weapons. Yet talking isn’t accomplishing this goal. Today, Iran has six times more enriched uranium than when President Obama came into office — enough for five nuclear bombs. We fear that the Obama administration is now intent on kicking the can down the road past the election. The Emergency Committee urges the president to live up to his promise to stop Iran. Don’t delay. Don’t ask others to do our job for us. It’s time to act.”

A unique and revelatory moment of irony is upon us when a group calling itself the Emergency Committee for Israel issues this sentence about the United States attacking Iran: “Don’t ask others to do our job for us. It’s time to act.” Remember, you are anti-Semitic if you say that the pro-Israel community is warmongering on Iran, and never mind that the self-proclaimed “pro-Israel wing of the pro-Israel community” is issuing these calls within the establishment discourse.

To its credit, J Street is making some of my points about Kristol and the hard-core lobby:

Don’t let the people that brought you the war in Iraq fool us again — share this video with your friends and help stop the drums of war!

This card is not being played as much as it used to be played but the inference is still there.

That ad is about as aggressive as it gets. Who makes that calculation that Iran has enough enriched uranium to make 5 nuclear bombs? Bill Kristol or Pam Geller?

I remember hearing then Senator Obama saying that Iran had a nuclear weapons program during the campaign…what an ass kisser

      Remember you are antisemitic ….

      Emergency committee = Jewish warmongers

Go ahead zionists, sue my ass

War can go anywhere. A war for some Jews is not likely to be good for the rest of the Jewish collective.

And the P5+1 minus any willingness to negotiate responded to Iran it is “our (Israel’s way) or the highway”

P5+1 = O. When the P5+1 decided that that they were unwilling to negotiate with Iran at all before they came to the table (Israel made sure of that) and are unwilling to accept yes as an answer… the outcome had all ready been pre determined before they pretended to sit down

Odd. But all of this attention on Super Pacs and foreign nations influencing our elections which of course when it comes to Israel we are all aware of…but this may put more attention on this ad may put a spotlight on this “foreign nation” issue

These negotiations with Iran are frustratingly slow and seemingly pointless. However, they are serving one useful purpose which is basically a cease fire. Politically that makes it difficult if not impossible for Israel to launch its own assault against Iran. It seems like a convoluted mechanism but we all know why — the lobby is just too powerful for Obama to defy them openly. It is for that reason that the US cannot make any open concessions on enrichment until after November, should Obama win. Of course, Kristol and Dennis Ross will be yapping from the sidelines attempting to derail the process for they surely see this dynamic also.

I still think that the US will agree for Iran to enrich for nuclear fuel. Something positive can happen from this yet.

It is curious that this sort of ad screaming for a war for the ziobots against Iran is acceptable while a couple of posters drawing attention to the US’s support for the Israeli war machine aren’t.

Great point. But of course the MSM on all fronts as well as our Reps etc have cultivated the acceptance of this massive hypocrisy

As usual, this is about the Israel-first crowd trying to get the US to fight their wars for them.

And their threat: if you don’t do it, we will.

Let’s make sure there is a high cost for them starting Middle East War III. We can do this nonviolently by pledging to BOYCOTT ISRAEL IF IT BOMOBS IRAN:

Let’s PREVENT the next war, instead of protesting it after the fact!

“Don’t delay. Don’t ask others to do our job for us. It’s time to act.”

Aside from everything else, just how did it become ‘our job’?

Iran happens to be almost exactly on the opposite side of the planet from us, and as I understand it, we haven’t had diplomatic relations with her for thirty years. What situation could we conceivably have less of an obligation to deal with?
