Max Blumenthal’s new book Goliath: Life and Loathing in Greater Israel came out earlier this week, and he was on Democracy Now! this morning to discuss the four years of reporting from Israel/Palestine that went into the book.

Blumenthal explains how the occupation is moving back over the green line and how racism is a unifying force in Israeli society. Blumenthal says, “I was most surprised at the banality of the racism and violence that I witnessed and how it’s so widely tolerated because it’s so common . . . And I’m most surprised that this it hasn’t made its way to the American public … that’s why I set out to do this endeavour, this journalistic endeavor, to paint this intimate portrait of Israeli society for Americans who don’t see what it really is.”

If you’re in Philadelphia you can see Blumenthal speak about his book with Ian Lustick at the University of Pennsylvania on October 17.

Update: A second part of Blumenthal’s interview was just posted by Democracy Now!

This book is a must have.It gets right inside the nub of the problem.Zionist racism and criminality.

Thanks you Mr Blumenthal.

Great interview, Max. And great publicity for your book, and negative publicity for the NYTimes and its taboos. Will it take a stand against racism and inhumanity? It will take that and more and many years… Read more »

Max. This generation of internet addicts have the attention span of gnats.

No one is going to buy your book, much less read it.

Happily, saying that Israeli Jewish society is violently racist (which I believe to be true) is not antisemitic even if saying that Jewish society as a whole is violently racist (which I do not believe to be true) might be antisemitic (even if true !!). The problem is getting American Jews comfortable enough with serious criticism of Israel to LISTEN TO and, later, to AGREE WITH, Blumenthal’s thesis. What would be especially helpful would be… Read more »
