On Thursday Yousef Munayyer of the Palestine Center went on Sean Hannity’s TV show and Hannity abused him for several minutes, refusing to allow Munayyer to answer a question about whether Hamas is a terrorist organization except by saying Yes or No. Some of the barrage was picked up by Politico, above, which said Hannity repeatedly shouted at Munayyer.
The entire exchange can be seen here. Munayyer conducted himself with dignity throughout. “Sir, you invited me on here as a guest… If you think we’re going to have any progress in this situation by simply yelling at me…”
Though Munayyer flushed when Hannity said that he couldn’t get an idea through his “thick head.”
Hannity: Is Hamas a terrorist organization?… What part of this can’t you get through your thick head?
Munayyer: “Excuse me? Excuse me?”
A while back John Mearsheimer said that the Israel lobby has been reduced to smashmouth tactics. This is further evidence. As someone who thinks the mainstream is vital territory, I admire Munayyer for agreeing to speak in the Fox forum; and yes, I look forward to his answering that question, perhaps on his site, Permission to Narrate.
Hannity is a meathead bigot and that’s all there is to say about him.
I’m surprised Munayyer – who knows this full well – went on anyway. I guess he was aiming for the 10% liberal audience Fox has. After all, Norman Finkelstein has revealed he is a regular listener(non-ironic, apparently) of Rush Limbaugh.
Nevertheless, this “interview” just shows why you shouldn’t bother.
Heroic performance nontheless from Munayyer, who is a man of far greater dignity than that bottomdweller.
Love how they put the logo “Sympathy for the Terrorists” underneath him.
