Sol Salbe’s Facebook page features this image from Israel’s biggest-circulation newspaper, with this commentary:
The mainstreaming of racism in this morning’s Yedioth Ahronoth. The question: Is Ashkelon’s mayor Itamar Shimoni’s decision to cease the employment of Arabs near kindergartens a legitimate call?
Being even handed Yedioth gives equal space to the positions for and against.A truly democratic spirit: shall we be racist? For and against are both legitimate.
In the old days this would have been considered satire (assassinating Rabin – for and against ‘ibid, ibid.)
Arguing in favor of discrimination? It’s Noah Klieger, a veteran Israeli journalist, and an 88-year-old Auschwitz survivor from Vienna.
Here was the Ashkelon mayor’s decision re Palestinians, from the Forward.
Thanks to Ofer Neiman.
Has anyone called for the banning of Arabs from construction sites either in Israel or the West Bank?
“The prime minister said in a statement there was “no place in Israel for discrimination against its Arab citizens” and an entire community must not be blamed for the actions of “a small and violent minority.””
But it is ok to demolish Palestinians houses (never Jewish) as punishment for the alleged actions of a small and violent few.
Israel, hypocracy central.
I hate to ask, but what was the result? I couldn’t find it on the website, and as the stories on that website are rather disturbing…
Why specifically near kindergartens? lol
Sounds like a cheap “I’ll protect dem chilluns” move to appeal to female voters.
