The Netanyahu speech controversy is a neverending disaster on Capitol Hill and it just keeps piling up headlines. Eighteen congresspeople say they’ll skip it. ‘The Hill’ calls it likely the most controversial speech ever by a foreign leader to a joint session of Congress. Bill Kristol, the head of the neoconservative Emergency Committee for Israel, put out a tongue-in-cheek letter to Hillary Clinton offering her to drive her to the speech.

Last night veteran CBS news correspondent Bob Simon was killed in a car accident in New York City. His bombshell 2012 report on Palestinian Christians for ’60 Minutes’ drew false charges of anti-Semitism and sent shockwaves to the top of the Israel government.

A new bipartisan bill engineered by AIPAC was introduced in Congress yesterday that ties the rejection of Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions (BDS) against Israel to future U.S. trade agreements with the European Union. H.R.825, The Israel Trade and Commercial Enhancement Act (pdf) was sponsored by Congressmen Peter Roskam (R-IL) and Juan Vargas (D-CA) and the Israel lobby has been behind the scenes pushing it for months.

972 reports: European diplomats joined Palestinian, international and Israeli activists at a sentencing hearing for Palestinian non-violent Palestinian protest leader Abdullah Abu Rahmah at Ofer Military Prison in the West Bank on Sunday. The military prosecutor demanded a harsh punishment consisting of a long prison sentence and a large fine claiming that Abu Rahmah is somebody who commits ideological crimes, thus his chance for rehabilitation is low and he must be given a punishment that will deter him from doing similar things in the future.

Three young Muslim-Americans were killed yesterday evening in Chapel Hill, North Carolina by Craig Hicks, 46, who had posted anti-religious messages on his Facebook page. The victims’ names are: 19-year-old Razan Mohammed Abu-Salha; 21-year-old Yusor Mohammed Abu-Salha; and 23-year-old Deah Shaddy Barakat. The case has rocked the Muslim-American community, who have taken to social media to mourn and vent their outrage at what they say is a lack of media attention to the case.
