Update on the comment section

As many readers have noticed the comment section is still not working properly. I apologize for this and know this impacts many of our readers who not only come to Mondoweiss for news and commentary, but also for community. We’re working on getting it fixed and hopefully it will be resolved soon.

I have two updates to give — the short version and the long version. The short version is that we recently moved the site to a new server and are now having a problem with one of the databases that the site runs off of. Our tech support staff is working on fixing the issue as quickly as they can.

Here is the longer, technical, explanation that was sent to me by our tech support:

The commenting problem appears to involve possible inconsistencies with the database. We suspect one of the plugins may be involved, but we aren’t 100% certain. That’s one avenue we’re exploring. The other avenue is around the unique IDs used when someone comments. The two key tables in the database are not in sync and this appears to go back to earlier in the year, when on the previous host, we had problems with the site crashing. The crashes may have corrupted the database – we’re not sure, but we are looking at possible ways to fix that.

Neither of these are quick solutions, though we are working as quickly as we can on this.

So, that is what we know. When we have an update I’ll be sure to pass it along. In the meantime please do not hesitate to get in touch.

thanks adam. and we do appreciate everyones patience on hanging in there with us. we do want your comments on all our articles! people love reading comments — i know i do.

I still have the same problem, if I don’t immediately post my comment, but take time to write it. The only solution is to refresh the page, press the reply button, immediately paste my comment and immediately click “post comment”.

Why no update on the current problem with the commenter profiles?
