A message from the ‘uncivilized’

Ghada Hania responds to CBS correspondent Charlie D'Agata who contrasted life in "civilized" Ukraine to places that have seen "conflict raging for decades" like Iraq, Afghanistan, or perhaps Palestine.

This is Ghada. I am uncivilized. I have graduated from the English Literature department. I am about to finish my master’s degree in Applied Linguistics. I am a researcher, translator, content writer, and blogger with four years of experience in both Arabic and English language.

I am uncivilized; I am a member of the Palestinian Writers Association. I published a book in a well-known Jordanian publishing house and wrote a high-quality blog in Aljazeera blogs.

My uncivilized father is a mathematics teacher who taught generations and inspired my uncivilized old sister, a mathematics teacher. My uncivilized young brother has recently graduated from the Faculty of Science, physics. My uncivilized mom has a small library filled with many books from different genres; she reads and writes summaries on the bond paper.

My uncivilized uncle has a Ph.D. in Chemistry and is a university teacher. My uncivilized aunt is a labor and delivery nurse at the hospital. She was caring about patients. My uncivilized cousin is a computer engineer; she is a web developer and computer programmer.

My uncivilized niece loves to buy astronaut toys wishing to become an astronaut when she grows up. My uncivilized nephew has a little piano, and she is learning the musical notes through an application on her mom’s phone.

My uncivilized family has taught me and my siblings to love others, respect the elderly, and show kindness to children. My uncivilized family has taught us honor, dignity, justice, generosity, and honesty. They also taught us to spread love and harmony.

Our uncivilized neighbor is the operation manager at al-Shifa hospital. He spends most of the day at work. He could barely see his family; he is happy, however, as he provides humanitarian services to helpless people.

My uncivilized friend is an artist. She paints the characters with a charcoal pencil, and her paintings have been shown in many art exhibitions.

My uncivilized teacher won an award for international publishing, and I remember that he published a book in legal translation in a well-reputed publishing house in Britain.

My uncivilized classmate has published her first novel in 2017. She is a writer, and she was awarded many literary prizes. Her little uncivilized kid is completely obsessed with collecting children’s comic books.

I am enrolled in a training course about entrepreneurship in literary production. I met an uncivilized girl who suffered from a disease in her childhood, yet she insisted on continuing and not surrendering. As the days went by, she was healed. She became a multi-talented artist; she draws, writes, and has her small wooden furniture company.

The Supervisor in this training is an uncivilized woman who has a master’s degree in medical chemistry, and she holds a patent for the treatment of a skin-related disease.

Two bookstores were opened owned by uncivilized people living in the neighborhood. You can find everything you can imagine there.

Our uncivilized society shows cooperation and unity during aggressions carried out by the Israeli occupation. We shelter, in our homes, anybody who desperately needs it. We feed them and take care of them.

Moreover, our uncivilized society call for contribution campaigns to support needy people. And more importantly, a large number of uncivilized people respond to the blood donation campaigns held in health centers.

Our uncivilized freedom fighters bravely defend their homeland from the real enemy. They prepare and equip themselves very well day and night for the sake of their people’s freedom, dignity, and honor. They sacrifice their souls, yearning for freedom.

Our uncivilized construction workers reconstruct buildings, towers, houses, institutions, education centers from the ashes. The Israeli occupation destroys everything, and they again and again and again build them.

Our uncivilized people have a fervent hope in their hearts that they will, one day, be independent and free from the occupation.

We are uncivilized, and we don’t have blue eyes and blond hair.

Which refugees have the right to go home?” The Landline, March 6/22 by Orly Noy
“In Israel-Palestine, the Russian invasion of Ukraine & the exodus of over a million Ukrainian nationals has made one thing clear: the Israeli government does not have an adequate plan for dealing with refugees, particularly if they are not Jewish.
“Following harsh criticism of Israel’s initial decision to shut its doors to refugees fleeing from Ukraine, including from the Ukrainian ambassador & consul in Israel, the government announced a new policy according to which Ukrainian refugees entering Israel after fleeing Russia’s invasion will be required to pay a deposit of NIS 10,000 each & commit to leaving the country within a month (which may soon be extended to a year), upon which they will receive their deposit back.
“Much has already been said about Israel’s inhumane policies toward refugees in general, & in particular African asylum seekers who fled the horrors of war in their countries & have been subjected to years of endless humiliations. Following the outbreak of war in Ukraine, we have witnessed this inhumane treatment meted out against Ukrainian refugees as well.
“The demand that Ukrainian refugees pay a large deposit to deter them from remaining long term indicates that, for Israel, the condition of being a refugee is supposed to end the moment the danger passes. At that point, the thinking goes, the refugees should return to their home country. This, of course, applies only to refugees for whose flight Israel itself is not responsible.
“When it comes to Palestinian refugees, Israel will prevent their return at all costs, lock the gates in their faces, & forever determine the refugee status of their children & grandchildren. Israel believes refugees from anywhere else in the world should be able to & are even required to return to their homeland at the end of hostilities. Yet Palestinian refugees, who Israel itself created in 1948, are barred from returning to their homeland, even seven decades after the end of the war.(cont’d)

“Not only has Israel never allowed the return of hundreds of thousands of Palestinian refugees who were displaced upon its establishment, as well as millions of their descendants living in refugee camps across the world, it has even passed a law banning Palestinian citizens — those who remained within the borders of what became Israel — from marking the expulsion of their people as a day of catastrophe, lest they be exposed to various state sanctions.
This is not the least bit surprising. It is yet another demonstration of the sweeping exemptions Israel has granted itself since its inception — not only from any commitment to international law, but also to the most basic tenets of morality.
“For more than 70 years, Israel has treated itself as an exception to which international laws & norms do not apply. This is particularly ironic in light of the fact that one of the pretensions of Zionism was ‘to bring the Jews back into the circle of history,’ that is, to some semblance of normalcy as part of the community of nations. But Israel does not actually want to be normal. It never wanted that.
“In fact, Israel maintains its self-granted license for abnormality every time it opens fire on unarmed demonstrators in Gaza, whenever it invades a neighboring country’s airspace, in every apartheid law it passes, & with every assassination of an Iranian nuclear scientist. And after all of this, when human rights organizations dare to point out its racism, its repeated violations of international law, or its apartheid policies, Israel immediately exclaims in response: ‘But why are you treating us differently?’
“On Sunday, Interior Minister Ayelet Shaked lamented that 90 percent of Ukrainians who have entered the country since the beginning of the war are not Jews, & urged the government ‘to do more to bring Jews & those eligible for the Law of Return’ (the World Zionist Organization is planning on settling at least some Ukrainian Jewish refugees in the occupied territories). Shaked also reportedly told the cabinet last week that ‘the war will make European countries understand that they need weapons, & a lot of them. They will want to increase their defense budgets.’
“…Israel must put forth an immigration policy that does not rest on the supremacy of Jews over others…”

The news presenter didn’t mention “Palestine” at all.

Our uncivilized freedom fighters bravely defend their homeland from the real enemy. They prepare and equip themselves very well day and night for the sake of their people’s freedom, dignity, and honor. They sacrifice their souls, yearning for freedom. “

If the original PLO call for a secular state is to come about, it will probably come sooner via fighting civilly with future neighbors for honor, dignity and freedom.

Nazi Germany was the epitome of civilization, in particular, European civilization.

What a racist guy.
